Any idea of when VZW will offer the capability for us (consumer) to track the location of a user (i.e. teenager) via some sort of web-based GPS service?

Most phones have "location on" or "911 only" options for the GPS. How the "location on" GPS is accessed is beyond me.

Thanks. Yes, on all of our phones I did change the setting to "location on", but, can't seem to find a way either through VZW or a subscription service where I can track a phone.
A friend does this with his teen, but, they use tMobile.

Why don't you call customer service and find out?

Ok, to your point, I should have stated this in my original post, but, in any case, I did before I posted and the rep I spoke with had no information. He was very nice but when he could not supply the info, I posted here.

You could try calling and talking to someone else, and if they don't know, ask to talk to their supervisor. Someone along the chain has to know if you can or can't do it and how you do it if you can.

P.S. I'm not trying to be a dick, but the topic has been sitting here for almost a half an hour. If anybody knew the answer, they probably would have posted it by now. I doubt you'd need to be on the phone with CS for half an hour to find this out.

Um, I get your point, but, isn't one of the points of this and forums similar to this that you can post a question like I did and get some info without having to make an endless series of phone calls?

Yes! That's the beauty of this site, but I don't know the answer to your question. It's just that since the thread has been alive for a while, it might be faster to go through someone on the phone. But, if it doesn't matter how long it takes to get an answer, someone here will probably answer the question in the next few days.

Thanks. Yes, while I am eager to get the information, if it takes a few days, no sweat, and, its better than being on phone hold ;-)

Well, for your sake, I hope that someone here knows the answer. Sorry if I came across as offensive.

Ok, fair enough. By chance do you know of even a "rough" deployment date where concerned parents can use it?
Thanks!

My best guess for a concerned parent will be the next month or so. The on-line training course just became available for the retail employees this week. When there is a product training it is usually 3 or 4 weeks until launch.

This is GREAT! Thank you! I just got done having real-time GPS tracking installed in the vehicle as well as the car "black box". I am pondering DriverCam, but, I am still evaluating that. Personal GPS tracking would be a welcome addition and something that I would even place on my own phone.

The new software looks really promiseing. And there right I heard end of this month from my data trainer.

i have heard a tentative launch of mid june. No mention of cost. it will be markted as something to keep track of your kids (as opposed to the inevitable stalking of signifigant others).

For me, whatever the cost is, it is. When it comes to safety, price is the least of my worries, but, I know this is a personal thing.
