Who owns Verizon EVDO network?

I have a Verizon EVDO card for my laptop. It works great, with around 700+ download speeds in Orange County, CA.

I was talking to a Sprint rep and he said that Sprint should have faster speeds, since the EVDO network that Verizon uses belongs to Sprint.

Huh? I thought Verizon had the EVDO network up and running before Sprint. Or am I completely off track here?

Maybe I am mistaken, but I believe Sprint uses Verizon towers.... certainly not the other way around. Verizon does not piggy back off other carriers and call it their own. (They call it extended network if they don't own the towers).

Right now to my knowledge neither Sprint nor Verizon share each others towers for EVDO. I know that Sprint just recently entered in to a data roamiong agreement with Altell. VZW does not do a lot of data roaming agreements at this point in time. So right VZW's EVDO is all there own network.

actually if you notice thei 1x data extended area is expanding compliments to new agreements with alltel, so verizon is opening up data roaming agreements, but no evdo partners yet
