Going to the Bahamas for a week with family. Verizon Rep said I won't have service as VZ is not on GSM network. Looking for options. Would like to call other family members in the Bahamas as well as call back to the US. Is renting via VZ an option? Other carriers?

global phone rental is a $300 security deposit, $3.99 p/day and $1.49 p/min...your security deposit would be applied towards all charges accrued...gotta call cust servce and have them transfer you to the global support dept to rent one

Cingy had an agreement with most of the cruiselines to put in repeaters. Royal Carib, Princess, etc. It's like $2.50/min or if you're on their world trav program 1.60/min...

Tks - My folks have Cingular and you're right it's $2.49/minute. Cheaper to borrow their phones than pay VZ or rent. Appreciate the info.

Pick up the cheapest GSM phone you can find on ebay. Will need to be a "World Phone" or you will need to research what bandwidth Bahamian networks use. The buy a prepaid SIM card from a local carrier doen there. Tou could probably get it in advance on-line.

Probably would be cheaper than a rental through VZW
