Tri-mode/analog
I am going to be switching to verizon service soon and was wondering if I have a tri-mode phone and force analog, or just end up only getting analog service, will I be charged for it? Is it considered roaming? or just when it is actually roaming?
Thanks, have a great day
PS Will God be upset if I pray that the v710 is realeased soon?

There is not a possibility to JUST get Analog service...purely analog phone are no longer compatible with the system, nor are dual mode(digital and analog)...What you would be looking at would be either a tri mode( analog, digital and PCS) or Dual Band(all digital)...but with the dual band you have to watch because if you go into BFE alot where it would be analog you won't be able to place or recieve calls

Hey VZWMan-
I am contemplating switching to VZW and I live in the East TX area. I have searched the coverage locator on the VZW website and noticed that it doesn't coincide with the blue/light blue map in the brochure and on the site. My question is this: If I buy a Tri-mode phone and travel into one of the white areas (no service areas according to the coverage locator), will analog simply not work? I have also been told that an all digital handset will pick up signal better than any Tri-mode. True?

Well I'm not going to lie to you, being from the Midwest area I'm not completely 100% sure of the coverage in Texas well enough to tell you what exactly will happen...just like any map they are meant to be used as a tool...if you were to go by the map...those white areas would be completely off the network...so no matter if you were in analog or digital you would still get roaming charges of .69/minute but as always to determine actual roaming areas you have to consult the roaming indicator on the phone...because as hard as we try to map the exact coverage on those...there is no possible way...Thats actually one of my favorite thing...when a customer calls in saying that they got roaming in part of our coverage area according to the "map"......

I perfectly understand the size of the map issue and I realize that mapping coverage is not exact. Maybe I should have re-worded the initial question since I may have confused you. This is what I am looking for: If I travel into one of the "white areas" where VZW claims it has no service, will my tri-mode handset receive an analog signal from another provider or will it not work at all? I don't care if I get charged or not I just need it to work. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

Sorry about that...you would most likely be able to pick up a roaming signal .69/minute. but with those areas we can not gaurentee any kind of service, roaming or not...sorry
