Merger Setbacks
WASHINGTON-The proposed Cingular Wireless/AT&T Wireless merger apparently is going to get a lot more scrutiny from the U.S. Department of Justice in the coming days.
The agency has issued a request for highly detailed, extensive information on both carriers' customers, the amounts customers spend on various services and other significant market information in its review of the merger, say sources familiar with the inquiry.
The DOJ request comes as the FCC's deadline for less detailed information approaches. The commission had asked the companies -- in 12 pages worth of questions - to deliver their answers by this Friday.

I've also noticed some drastice changes from 0502 pps to 1002 or 0603 pps, maybe that's what will happen this year. 0504--->1004
Cingular and ATTWS are setting precedents with this. Since the laws changed that regulates spectrum control, its ALL a grey area. So there are going to be things that keep it from going as smoothly as they did in the past.
I have no doubt that things will proceed well. Cingular is trying to accelerate the process in the interest of providing better service and stronger competition. Their timeline for completion has always seemed a bit optimistic to me. I expected by years end to mid 1st quarter. That seems about right with this news.
