Question for the techies

We had our network go down here yesterday for about 6 hours (yea it sucked being an agent).

I got a call from a rep after they got it back on and he said that it had to do with the local LANDLINE service here having an issue that caused our cell towers to go down.

They called it a transport outage.

Can anyone tell me why?

calls go from cell-tower-landline-landline-tower-cell. i can see that being a possibility.

I can see that. I just never realized that. Very strange last couple of weeks, yesterday and we had a T-1 line go down to cause outages for 4 and half hours across 200 miles...

Yea fun..

I think a factor of 1000 is important in just about any context, unless something is already so large as to be unfathomable. Is that what you're saying here?

Not only do calls have the routng you have said when going to landlines and other carriers, but some cell towers are not all wireless. We will actually use the local landline (usually on T1 lins) to transport our own information to ourselves.

most all towers are on a fixed permenant t-1 but should work on microwave as a backup, calls would still go through but it would be intermittent, alot of dropped calls and network busy type stuff.
