signal deterioration in warmer weather

Unfortunately my home is in a weak signal area (A Verizon rep told me that their are some plans to put up a new tower "3000 feet from my house", but not until next year at the earliest).
I have noticed that as the warm humid weather starts to set in, the signal has become even worse. Seems it's the worst on the hot humid days. Signal is virtually non-existant at these times. Is this typical, I didn't notice when I was with a GSM carrier that weather conditions affected the signal as much.

Could part of the warm-weather issue be increased foliage? They tend to mention foliage (between you and the tower, I assume) as one of the things that detracts from signal strength.

No question.. lots of leaves between you and a tower will lower your signal. Sure works that way around here.

Excessive amount of sun rays could adversely affect signal strength...
