BT and MP3 for dummies
Okay- I'm new to this phone-playing-music thing but lately I've been looking at the 8300 and it seems to have all these neat music features. So I can get the most out of this phone, can I get someone to tell me what I can expect from these features and whether there are hidden costs involved? In particular:
1) Can I download the MP3's from my home computer to my phone? Yes- I know I can, but how about hidden costs? Do I need special accessories or can I use the Bluetooth feature since my home computer is on a wireless network?
2) Speaking of Bluetooth, can I listen to these tunes on a BT accessory or do I have to have wired headphones?
3) When I play these tunes will I be charged airtime? Seems like a dumb question I know but I...

1) yes, with an asterisk. You will want to get a memory card to hold the music. the on-board memory is somewhere around 30-40 megs usable. All you need to do is move your files to the MY_MUSIC folder. If all you have is .mp3's you can download a converter at download.com at no charge/no spyware. look for "free mp3 wma converter 1.4" i think the name is. if you would rather not, you can get a sync cable and use windows meda player 10 to convert/transfer to the phone/card.
2. Unsure with the new handsets. rules for the 815,8100,950,and 8900 are no. you'll need a wired earpiece to listen to music and not annoy others.

OR....convert them yourself to WMA's and put them into the folder, OR go to the "secret menu" on the phone, re-enable the MP3 player and put your MP3's on the card in MP3 format.
2. It has been said that this phone has A2DP, which is necessary to listen to music via a "stereo" bluetooth headset (which is different than the regular BT headsets). I have this phone, but don't have a "stereo" BT headset, so I can't tell you that for sure.
3. You will not be charged airtime to listen ...

to all who replied. This was a lot of help. I'm actually pretty excited about getting this phone now! Just two more questions:
1) what kind of memory card should I buy or does the phone already come with one?
2) what are all the 'secret codes' and 'secret menus' everyone keeps referring to?
Thanks again.
