I bought a Samsung a930 and so far I really like the phone (lots of cool features and Voice command is awesome) even though it does not have the steardy feel of the razr. It is nice however the black material smudges easily. Anyhow, I dont like the fact that it doesnt play mp3s (to my knowledge).

Are there any VZW phones that allow the mp3 format and how come phonescoop has mp3 as a supported format for this phone??? Any help would be appreciated.

thats probally how it came from samsung. but onec vzw loaded it with their software it probally became limited to the wma format.

to my knowledge the only 2 phones still floating aroung on vzw's roster that allow mp3 play back are the moto e815. and that ugly @$$ nokia 6255.

i could be wrong though.

They just took the 8100 off the site, but if you call CS or go into a store you can still get it for awhile. The 8300 was just released to replace it, though, and you can also do it on that on and it's a nicer phone. Also, someone posted that you have to have VCAST service and the MUSIC ESSENTIALS kit to put MP3's on. That is incorrect. All you need is a memory card and reader and you'll be fine. You just put your MP3's from your desktop into the MY_MUSIC folder on the card.

Yea I figured that much but still no mp3 right? also, Motorola phone tools if I'm not mistaken would let you crop sections of the songs and use that as ringtones. does this vcast music kit allow this???

Motorola E815 and the LGVX8100 (plays wma and mp3 format, a setting has to be changed within the 8100 to play mp3) maybe the LGVX9800 can do mp3 as well haven't tried it.

Strictly speaking, with the vcast music pack thingy that comes with the data cable they all can do "mp3" you just gotta push them through the computer program with the cable, it converts them to DRM-ed wma files, but it ends up being the same thing when it's all said and done...

I wish people would stop saying the Vcast Music phones won't play MP3's. You can still put all your MP3 music on the phone. You just have to buy the music esentials kit with the cable. Windows Media Player will transfer all your MP3's into WMA's and put them on the phone automatically for you. It's no big deal.

WMA & MP3 are different formats. Most people like myself prefer the mp3 format for WMA. They don't want their files converted from mp3 to wma. It's one thing if a person wants to use wma. It's another to force people to use wma. The RIAA supports wma and trying to force it upon people. Verizon Wireless is backing mp3, which I believe to satisfy the RIAA. That however can hu...

Most people that listen to music aren't going to know a thing about the differences or even that their music is being converted. With the quality you get on the phones you're not going to notice a difference anyway.
