I asked Verizon support about plans to put a new tower in my area. Coverage is much worse than T-Mobile, Cingular, etc., but was better a couple years ago. I asked if they had any plans to put new towers in my area in the next two years. This is the reply

"For security purposes, it is not possible to release the requested
proprietary information regarding the exact time in which towers may be
built. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

I guess Verizon has learned from our government, "security" is a an excuse that fits conveniently for all occasions!

Okay... let's try again. I had emailed Verizon Wireless customer service if they had any plans on putting another tower in the area of my home (which currently has coverage that allows calls maybe 50% of the time).
The replay that I quoted above that I received from the Verizon Wireless agent basically said they cannot comment on whether they have any plans to put up a new tower in my area due to "security"... To be blunt I find that to be a BS response.

so that is their policy and your reaction is to cry about it on phonescoop. take some direct action and fix your problem. What is so complicated?

The reason people like Verizon is their service. Their phones are at best average. Why don't you stop complaining and just switch your service when your contract is ready for upgrade (because if you had Verizon two years ago, your contract is up).

Exactly anyone who can only make a call from their home 50 percent of the time would not keep the service. I think this is a troll post which is fine, but you need better material my man. One of my personal favorites is " IN minutes are a rip off" 🤣 make it interesting guy.

No I'm not a troll. I had Verizon from about 1999 until 2004 when I switched carriers for financial reasons. Recently things improved financially and when the contract with the other carrier ended I switched back to Verizon for their coverage in other areas. Since I previously had had perfectly good coverage at my home I didn't expect any different. Apparently the newer crop of phones are not as strong as the phone I had under the old contract.
I simply think the excuse that they can't give an indication if they are going to be improving coverage in my area due to security reasons is BS.
I did reply to customer support that I thought the security reason was not valid and was in fact poor customer service.
I posted in this forum just...

Do you think that you would have gotten a different response if you asked the same question to another carrier?

Actually yes, when I was with another major carrier they gave out information on where their towers would be going online within a time frame going out 6 months. I.E. I could call them and they would list for me all the towns they were adding towers in for the next six months.

"Security" means different things to different people. Perhaps it is taken as a competitive measure, a "let's protect our equipment during construction" decision or a simple way of saying we just can't tell you anything right now.

If you don't want to switch from VZW, why not look into one of those home amplifier/antenna (Wilson?) set-ups.

BTW, I honestly feel that any carrier would NOT give you specific info. They may not cite secruity, but, they probably would not tell you the info either.

When I signed up for the service it was February and crisp and cool. The coverage was weak but still usable. I swapped out phones in an effort to get a better signal. By the time the end of the 14 day trial was up we were into a snow/sleet storm and made the unfortunate decision that although the signal was weak it was usable, and I didn't want to risk my life to drive the 12 miles to the Verizon store. Now that we are in warm summer weather the signal has gone downhill even further. Basically in February it was marginal but acceptable, now in June it has crossed the line to basically a non usable signal.

Then it's probably your phone and not the signal at least to the extent that it should be no worse than when you got it February. Signal and coverage does not degenerate in that manner. Certainly as usage on a tower increases, the capacity is affected and sometimes a user may experience occasional fluctuations of quality/connection but not a consistant degradation over a relatively short time as you describe.

If you experience any issues in stronger area (even if to a lesser extent), it would lean to your phone. This may not be the issue but if you leave your phone 24/7, it loses what is essentially processing power (like a computer left on too long). Periodic power cycling (for a few minutes every few days) can do wonders and especially ...
