Why Would Verizon Do This?

I went into a Verizon Store today for two things:

1. Look at Q
2. Return my Razr Extended Battery

I bought the Extended Battery and charged it into my account. I went to return it today and the woman said that I couldn't return it without the receipt. But it is on my account, why do I need a receipt? Thanks

Have you ever returned anything to any store without a receipt?

When I went in without a receipt they looked it up on my account.

That's true.

Even Radioshack has a system. If you give them your name and address, they can look up the receipt if you don't have it.

Well, they could look it up on your account and print a duplicate receipt, but that's not the point. The return policy CLEARLY states that you must have a receipt. If they make exceptions for one person, they would have to do it for all. One day it's printing out duplicate receipts, the next it's returning w/out a reciept, so they have to stick firmly to the policy.

It's not just Verizon that requires the receipt for returns. Target, Meijer, Kmart, Shopko, Best Buy, and Circuit City require the receipt for any refunds. That policy should have never been changed in the late 1980's, as it got abused and stores lost money from it. But aside from wireless, I don't like Target's refund policy....

I think thats the same for Verizon. I know that if I try to refund something thats paid for via credit card I have to either credit the account or have them swipe the card again. Try to convince the rednecks that you're not charging them for something when they have to swipe it again!

FYI,
I went into a store with a problem on a phone that was 8 months old. The person was taking a while, and She said that she was printing a duplicate reciept. I said, "oh, I have the original here." She indicated that it was just as easy so as to include it with the return if she needed to give me an FRU.
So, it seems that you could stop into a store and ask them if they could print out a duplicate reciept for you for your expense account.\

since everyone already gave the answer i was going to, I'll chime in by saying I will look for receipts when a customer doesn't have it. it's a couple of seconds out of my life versus the minutes I'm going to have to deal with some phuuk yelling about not being able to return something. sorry if you got someone who either didn't know how to, didn't want to, or (possibly) couldn't do it. I'm a tech, and the de-facto TL (team leader) in my store outright refuses to look up reciepts because it's "not our job." now technicaly, she's right, it's not our job to do returns, or exchanges, but it's not the sales/service reps job to do warrenty exchanges either, but we ::smacks mic:: HELP EACH OTHER OUT! or at least we're supposed to.

sorry, I went...
