I went to a store friday. the tech tells me i will lose all my music, and not be able to download music without buying it from vzw. I asked a vzw kiosk@ the mall, she said all you need is the music essentials kit to switch my music over to vcast music. Who's right?

You should still be able to get music. You might have to go in a enable the MP3s. They don't even have a music essentials kit for it yet. So I would say they are both wrong. if you're music is saved to your card you won't lose anything.

I'm with you on this one. However, I have the 9800 and I used the 8100 kit to bitpim my phone, so I'm slightly positive the msklg-1 will work with the 9800.

There will probably be a setting inside that switches it back to mp3. Just do that.

If not, get the kit and make your mp3s into wmas.

Advise: Make sure your memory card is out of the phone before they do the upgrade.

You might be able to use bit pim. (I used my 8100 cable to save my moms contact for her 4650) But I don't think you can use it with Vcast and WMP. I had a lady come in demanding a refund because she bought a 9800 in Jan. and came back in april to get the music essentials kit for the 8100. She loaded the software and it wouldn't work.

Take out your card and leave it at home. Take your phone to the store and get the update.

I don't update my phone. My 9800 still has version 1 on it. my theory is if it works fine, don't fix it. Plus, I like the "drag and drop" feature with the mp3's. You can't do that once you have mod.

I have no clue. I haven't received any of the new 9800s to verify. I would assume b/c the 8100 was able to do that. But you never know.

There is a music kit for the 9800 out already... I didn't realize the software was already released though...

In the NorthEast area they software has been released but there is a hold on it, some issues have been identified with the phone after upgrading. Should be ready to go soon though.

Technically after the upgrade the MP3 file format is disabled and you can only use WMA. Which means you can transfer all your existing files into Windows Media 10 and it will convert them for you and load it onto the phone's memory card. Of course, who knows the possibilities with all the hacks, I'm talking strictly policy.

And the 8100 music essential kit is supposed to work after the software upgrade on the 9800.
