I live in zipcode 73160 about 40% of the year. This area is known as an "Extended Digital" area for Verizon. My questions is will my IN minutes work here, and will my data work here too? I am so confused becuase on the coverage map at verizon.com when I look up the "NationalAccess & Enhanced Services" it shows my area to be "Extended Service Area* ". That little asterik next to it prompted me to look down below and read the fine print...and this is what I see "*NationalAccess extended service area for PC Cards, Blackberry® Solutions, PDA and SmartPhones only.". So if I get the Q will my data work, and will I have IN calling?

Thanks...very confused here...

Justin

Yes! you will have your DATA features on your Q aswell as your normal promo minutes IN/N&W etc. no roaming charges or anything. txt messaging will work fine picture messaging on the Q will work but on normal phones it would not in extended network.

...possibly...Verizon Wireless or any of it's reps wouldn't guarantee it working.. It PROBABLY will but it's not a Verizon Wireless owned network so it may not.

ok.. so if the Q will work, then will it activate itself from a extended digital area or will I have to drive to the Verizon network (Digital area) to activate it?????? Its coming with a phone number on it from Verizon from telesales...

Thanks

you activate it by doing the 877 number (I think its 877 807 4646 could be wrong tho) from a different phone not your new Q. and once thats done you will have to do a manual program if you are in extended network as *228 will not work. if you need assistnace with doing a manual program call customer care from a landline at 800-922-0204

from what I understand the phone (no matter how you activate it) needs to be in the "home" area first. It's like the verizon network can't see it and follow it to the extended network if I don't do that... was I told incorrectly?

I really appreciate your answers... you have been more that helpful!

You have to be on the Verizon network in order for the *228 to work. The phone is programmed over the air using this number therefore must be accessing the network. Another carrier's network or Extended Network is not going to work because it's not their phone. You don't have to be in your "home area" either, you just need to be getting either a 1x or EV signal to complete the activation.

thats not true at all. he just needs to manually program the phone put in the NAM MDN/MIN/SID and save. then power cycle the phone and make an outbound call and poof it will work.

just do what i said and call customer care from a landline.

and plus verizon is actually has some data roaming agreements out there, just because your phone says 1x doesn't mean it will ota. Just follow midnights advise, hand program the thing and it should work. Next time your phone reads verizon wireless on the front then do the *228

Thats absolutely true, he has to be on the network to OTA the phone. You are right also however, the phone can be manually programmed. I answered the question that he has to be on for *228.
