Can I get some clear answers regarding Verizon???
The service rocks.
But I am less than happy with their store personnel. Seems like if I ask 3 different people the same question, I get 4 different answers.
so... Can y'all help me out.
Is it true that a phone must have Verizon software loaded on it for me to switch my service to that phone?
Specific example: I am ready to get a new phone (my LG 3100 sucks)
I like the Kyocera slider.
VZW offers the SE47 model.
Alltel offers the SE44 model
I'd like the SE44 since it has analog
If I get my hands on a SE44, will I be able to transfer my service over to it?
The best answer I got from VZW was: it may require VZW software to be loaded on it to work.
Thank You

the answer to your question more likely is no..unless we have the software to update that phone, then we will not be able to use that on our network. The software would actuall be the PRL for the phone, if the SE44 is not capable for this update, then the phone is not going to work.
Not necessarily true. I've seen Sprint PCS phones work on our network with the correct re-programing software.. I haven't seen software for a phone switch from Alltell however. It may be just a matter of spending a few hours on Google searching for it, or where to get it. Like I said before, don't expect any hybrid phones to be covered by warranty from either carrier.

By the way, the reason you get 4 different answers is because we arent specifically trained on details regarding switching phones from other carriers, so some reps who have been around longer know answers to these kind of questions from experience, while newer employees are more text-book trained.

Ok, well to finish this post, if the ESN is not supported in the billing system, I don't care what type of phone it is, the system won't allow it to be put into service. Now, I realize that somebody will say this isn't true, but the new updates that is being made will prevent non capable phones to be used.
Would it make sense to assume since the SE47 is supported by VZW and the SE44 is from the same product family, that the SE44's ESN is supported???
BTW
Thanx to everyone for your responses

Not necessarily. Do a search for the CDMA re-programming software. The same product family doesn't really mean anything in regards to network ...

Would I just reprogram the ESN to my current phones ESN?
once the phone has been re-programmed with VZW software, yes.

Wouldn't this all be a lot of work to get a phone connected...and then not 100% sure that it would work, or work well once connected? A co-worker at my job is trying to do the same thing with his Audiovox 8900 that is on Metro PCS, and he wants to port over to Verizon. Unless your in a locality that doesn't receive a digital signal well and need analog, I would think an all digital version of the Slider would do just fine. I have an all digital LG-4500 and never have had a drop-call problem with it...even traveling out to the boonies! My last phone, a Samsung A-310 was tri-mode with analog...and whenever it went to analog it drained the battery...not to mention it sounded terrible! 😛 But if you do decide to try an acti...
