I went to my local Verizon store and purchased the software (V-Cast Music Essentials Kit) for my phone. However, the box says it supports LG VX8100! 😲 Will it work with my LG 8300???? Does anybody know this for sure???

😕

not unless you have an updated version i am unaware of. The cable will not fit on the music essentials packages we still have in stock.

the new music kit will work with the 8300/9800 and the 8100. The old cable will work but you can used a dremmel (sp?) and shave a little bit of the plastic off and the old cables will work on the 8300. The new cable is backwards compatible. Why LG decided to change the cable is beyond me...

take it back and ask them if they have any of the new ones in the back. If the salesperson knew what they were doing they wouldn't have sold you the wrong cable. Unless you are one of those customers that just points and says "that. I want that!"

No I said I wanted the software for my phone and she went to the back to get it. I assumed she knew what she was doing but when I got home I noticed it didnt support my phone... so it was also my fault for not checking at the store...is the new software already out for sure??

yes, we've had it for a week. unfortunatly we still have a ton of the old 8100 cables. perhaps the sales rep wasn't paying attention to the model you had and is just trying to get rid of old stock.
I also don't understand why they would change it. they changed the car charger awhile ago to fir the new and the old phones, so its not like they just wanted to sell a new CLA to everyone. I don't see any advantage to the new design over theold one. Maybe it is more secure or something...

Verizon requires manufacturer to change charging port ever now and then. There is no reason they had to, the port is exactly the same they just put a metal bar on the inside from stopping the old ones from fitting, they are simply trying to amp up their accessory sales plain and simple.

but thats the thing, we've been selling the lgvpc-4 for a long time now. noone really noticed the connector was diferent until this phone came out. so it isn't increasing accessory sales at all. maybe if you bought a CLA back when the 6100 came out you'd need to replace it. when samsung changed their plug with the 850/950 line we got the new cla's in that day. so if you had a 670 cla it didn't work. but this just seems silly with the 8300's new charger. just changing for changings sake.IMO

the cycle for that cable is coming in now for the two year mark, people how bought lg 3200/7000 are starting to come in and upgrade and now they have to buy a new cable because the old one doesn't fit. Thus increasing sales. They are not doing it just for the heck of it, Verizon really does ask this of the manufacturer, two years to be exact, now some manufactuers are a little stronger in sticking up to verizon but LG has always been their lapdog, note standard ui. They change these things simply so people must buy new ones when they come into upgrade or replace their phones.

I'd love to see where you get this information from? I'm sure other carriers and the manufacturers have absolutely no benefit from this...

from the manufacturer, from verizon higher ups, fom common sense. Manufacturer benefits by staying in Verizon's good graces and having their product showcased, who whores lg out more than anyone? Verizon, because lg acts as their lapdog and is always first to jump on verizon bandwagon when it comes to crap like this. What else is the benefit? ummm profit 🙄 If your old accessories don't fit then you have to buy a new one 😉 what do you think the cost is on those chargers lg, motorola, samsung, verizon sell for 20-30 bucks? Try about 1-6 dollars. That is a huge chunk of revenue for stores and companies. If we allow you to keep using the same charger and accessories then you will not have to buy the marked up new ones when you get a ne...

Our generic A670 chargers work just fine in the A630/850/950. I know what you are talking about though. We had to order all new OEM samsung chargers. This not only increases Verizon sales, but mine a...

I dealt with a customer escalation today about this issue. The VZW info manager says that the music essential kit for the 8100/9800 will work with the 8300. That is INCORRECT. LG changed the port on the 8300 so it will not fit. I've escalated to my higher ups that info manager is misleading employees in thinking that it will work when it will not.
