Warranty Question for VZW Reps
I went in to my local VZW store today to ask for a warranty replacement on an 8100 I have. I called first to ask the tech if they had any 8100 replacement phones in stock. He knows who I am, so told me over the phone to make sure the bad phone was active on my line before I brought it in. I activated it online, then went to the store. He informed me that according to VZW's contracts, the warranty on a phone is valid only so long as it is active on the line on which it was originally activated. He took care of me anyway, but said normally they were not supposed to honor the warranty on a phone which had been taken out of service. I found this interesting, and very strange. While I don't work in a store to have firsthand knowlege of this "policy", I've never heard of it. Usually I'll check to see if the current phone was activated on the same day as the last phone upgrade done on that phone number. If not, I'm in for some research. Some phones it's easy to know if it's under warranty or not. XV6700-YES VX6000-NO. If it's an iffy phone model, I'll just track it down and find the original activation date to see if it's elligible for warranty replacement.

Yes this is true. Once the phone is activated on another line it no longer has a wrty, However most techs don't check this or care too. So most of the time the tech won't care unless you are a biotch to the tech , then they do some investigating. (just did that yesterday)
