Call Failed ¿?¿?

What does it mean when you try to place a call and your phone beeps and says call failed? I mean, I know what that means, but why does this happen? Is it because I'm trying to place a call while someone is trying to call me? Is it because the cell site does'nt receive my signal? Is my phone going bad? (this has been happening more frequently, at least twice a week) or is it just a Motorola T730 issue/bug? Help!

Obviously you are not using Verizon!

Perhaps you are in the wrong forum. Verizon is reliable and stuff like that just does not happen and if it does CS will have no idea what to tell you becasue they have no expierience with un reliability like you describe. LOL

Don't mind Kingfrog...he's just being a smarta$$ 😉 If it's saying call failed it could possibly be a problem with the tower being full or signal strength...how many bars of signal are you getting and is it only happening in one area or all over the place?

It happened in my room, where I have almost reception, it also happened while I was driving, I had full reception this time, so I know for sure it isn't a reception problem. I'm not too worried about it, it doesnt happen that often and I know that things like this will happen every once in a while, even on VZW.

If your phone is completing a data session and you try to dial out, it will fail, also.

ie, send a text message, then dial a number. Boop boop boop, call failed.

Thank you! this is what's happening, I dialed a number right after sending a text msg, and it happened everytime I did that, now that I think about it!

Yes, that's why my calls were failing. I send txt msgs and call people right after, Im multitasking sometimes my phone can't keep up with me, it goes stupid and won't follow my commands, it gets confused, and while in the middle of a navigation thru the menus it would go back to the start menu, well it's my T730, you know! this phone is very well known for not following the commands, and slow menu navigation.

Oh, OK. Like I said, sometimes it's hard to tell, especially in this particular forum. 😳

When I had a T720, your problem happened to me all the time. I am frequently talking on one handset while text-messaging on another, or talking on two handsets at once. I'm sure I'll have a tumor the size of a grapefruit in 20 years.

You're welcome, BTW. Glad I could be of service.

towermonkey...

what is the cause of the problem? Is it the phone itself, or a delay in the handoff from data to voice at the switch?

I'm not really sure what causes it. What it seems like to me is this: The phone is still streaming data (in my case, text message) to the tower. Since the phone will use the same channel to call, it has to wait until the channel is cleared of the text message before it can initiate the voice call. If you dial out before, the processor sees that the link is still in use & fails the call.

I did notice it more on my T720, though. My V60S does it, but it's not as noticeable. Last night I duplicated Anxio's problem with 3 phones, a T720, my V60s, and a Sammy A650. The A650 was the quickest to relinquish control of the phone after a text message.

I don't know if this problem occurs with other carriers... I would imagine so, but I really hav...

Haven't noticed the issue with GSM, but that's not to say it doesn'r exist. I LIVE on my phone, text, MMS and voice. I would be curious to see if anyone on GSM has the issue. I have Moto v400, sammy 427, S/E T62u, and Moto 331 T (almost an antique...lol)

I too live on my phone(s). Moto T720 (dead), Timeport 270, V60S, and I have a scraped-up VX6000 bumping around under all the crap on my desk.

Last month, between my VZW-issued handset & my personal phone, I burned 2100 peak & 3200 offpeak. Not a WHOLE lot, I know, but 1600 😲 text messages is a lot. Slightly over 53 per day. Sick, isn't it? In 20 years, I'll have a brain tumor the size of a cantaloupe.

One of my lady friends who is an VZW indirect manager for Radio Smack regularly burns over 10,000 minutes a month. Now, SHE gets the award for biggest potential tumor, IMO. Not that cancer is funny, please don't think I think that...

Avg 5 hours a day on the phone?
Wow waht did she do before cell phones a few years ago. Did she leave the house?

And I thought my 400 minutes a month was a lot!

I know, it's a lot but it is verified. She has a Blackberry too, the girl is a certifiable cellular hoochie-mama. Pretty much the only time I've seen her without at least one phone pressed to her ear was when we were in New Orleans for some seminar that I slept through. She was still clicking away, sending text messages & working the Blackberry... brings multitasking to a whole new level.

There are a lot of variables affecting why a call fails. It happened to me last night right outside the VZW call center, all I did was turn off my phone then back on and it worked fine after that.
