Love VZW but cing gets me pda with no data. i would hate to switch but seriously thinking about it. Can anyone talk me into or out of it?

for those of you ask why do I need a pda phone if i dont need a data plan. dont bother commenting cuz your personal life is just not as busy as mine.

You CAN get a pda phone without having to pay for data. You would go onto a pay-as-you-go plan, so if you don't use it then you won't pay for it. You may also be able to get that feature (pay-as-you-go) taken off so that data does not work at all. Never tried the second option so I would be interested to hear what happens if you try it.

You can do the pay as you go, but as far as I know there is now way in the system to block the data on a pda phone.

there is. you can screw around with the settings on most of them so they don't auto connect to the network.

I worked with a guy with a 6700 no data plan, he just used it as an organizer and for text. I think these people are nuts as well, but to each their own

Why do you have to make derisive comments?

If someone wants the combined functionality of a PDA and a mobile phone in one device, what's wrong with that? You spend at least $200 for a decent PDA, so why not add that to the cost of a phone and cut down on the hardware you're carrying around? I've no familiarity with mobile Windows, but the Palm OS has lots of options for commercial and free software you can put on your system.

Data can be blocked by removing the Pay as you go feature and adding a 1X or national enhanced access block. This will disable all text messaging as well though.

Nope. You can ask to add a block feature. If the rep you're talking to says it can't be done have them talk to their supervisor. There is a block feature you can request. You don't have to have a data feature, not even Pay as you go. If they don't give in, have them transfer you to data support. And text messages will still work. Picture messages won't though.

Interesting!

I have always wanted a PDA phone and not want to use it to surf the net. I am just tired of carrying a phone and a PDA around.

I have always been told at the stores that I MUST get a data plan with PDA phone.

So let me make sure I understand this. If you get a PDA phone with Verizon, even if you don't get all the applicable discounts, they did require a data plan?

Interesting indeed.

Nope. There's a block feature you can add. A data plan is not required.
