NE2 Error ?

DoubleHelix

Jul 13, 2006, 7:32 PM
I upgraded my wife's phone on December 24, 2005 to the RAZR V3C.
I also did mine (totally separate account 10 minutes after hers).
As of today on the VZ web site, both accounts have that new Verizon "NE2 Meter" which shows a red bar indicating over a 24 month period how close you are to your new free phone.

My account says that "on October 24, 2006 you are eligible to upgrade at promotional pricing. On October 24, 2007 you are eligible to upgrade and get your free phone (that is correct).

But my wife's is still indicating she has not upgraded since October 2003. She actually had her StarTac since 2001 before the RAZR.

Obviously, an error? It offers her to buy a bunch of phones totally free and shows the $100.00 discount.

It appears that whomever upgraded your wife's phone accidently coded her upgrade incorrectly. Unfortunately, it is usually found...

most likely what happened is that they upgraded the phone as an accessory saleand changed the contract for the plan in a sub-system but never used an upgrade code for the phone when changing the esn. or the rep did it semi corrctly but the activation was failed in the system even with a contract signed so there for the rep just changed the esn and plan but never used an upgrade code for the phone. if you go to a store to do the upgrade most likely they will catch the error, but as of now if you do it online you'll recieve your ne2 credit.

Hey...if VZW is offering you something for free...take it. If you go to a department store and they have the wrong price tagged on an item, 99 percent of stores will honor the mistake. Don't feel bad about it...

Nike has the answer...

See... I would feel badly about it... it is stealing. It doesn't matter if it is out of the pocket of an individual who needs it or a large corporation. I couldn't bring myself to steal. But, to each his own I guess.

How is it stealing when a company says to you, "I will sell you xxx product at xxx cost"? I do not see how that would be stealing...

you know, lets take this one step forward. When you open VZW's page the first thing you see is them trying to sell you a phone. In fact, they have been having the main screen with..."MOTOROLA RAZR, IF YOU HAVE NEW EVERY TWO IT'S FREE...CLICK HERE!" So, you click there. VZW then says, click here and accept this phone for free with a two year contract. WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THAT STEALING?!?! VZW solicited you to purchase something. They went out of their way to solicit you. You buy at their agreed upon terms. Where is that stealing? You tell me...

If you know you are getting something that you shouldn't be and take advantage of it, this is stealing. Truly, someone made a mistake somewhere, and many customers do not know enough about the policies and may accept what is being "offered". I don't see this as "stealing" because there is no intent to do wrong. (I parallel this to a small child walking out of a store with a "token" because they didn't know better. It is stealing, but highly forgivable). However, if you know something is undeserved and unearned, and you take it anyway just because you feel justification, this doesn't make it right. Honestly though, when I said to each his own... I am no one to stand in judgement of anyone else. I would simply be very uncomfortable.

I have no intention of taking advantage of it because it is not right in the first case and the is the overarching reason I would not do it.

Second, I don't even need a phone since we both got new ones and frankly, the difference between the promo price and the ne2 is not that great. Not a justification, just a statement.

I just was wondering how something like that could have happened since the person who sold me both phones is one and the same person and he did the transactions 10 minutes apart.
He is also a former co-worker and I would not want him to get in trouble.

Ok should I just leave it alone and ignore it for fun to see how long it stays that way? I know there is a history log on everyone's account which shows when ever...

Actually, if you have no intentions of taking it, than you are better off saying something. In the end, you will have the same result if you dealt with it now or later but you are correct about the running history of phones. Every account has a list of the ESNs you had on the account and by checking back to the dates of the ESN changes, a competant customer service rep can see when the ESN change for a discounted phone was done. Taking that date and adding 22 months results in your correct NE2 date. By talking to someone now, you save yourself the headaches on the day that you really do want to get your NE2. (I say this because NE2 "expires" after 8 months of becoming eligible...and after being honest I would hate to have an incompetent rep ...

Oh yeah...and I agree with your choice on not taking it. 🙂 I feel good karma in your future!

Yeah my luck I'd stray from the straight and narrow just this once, get the phone and I'd get struck by lightning in a storm.
The news would say: Man killed in freak cell phone accident in storm...lol 😛

I still don't see how taking an offer made by a company could be stealing.

Geeze mister...that other dealership is selling that car for thousands more...could you please raise your price?

I applaud your stance on this issue! The world is full of people try to get something for nothing. I see it everyday back in CS.

I still don't see the "I am doing the right thing" stance. If someone comes into my store and I quote them the wrong price on a phone...I don't turn around and say, "ooops, that was my error...you need to pay more for that phone." No...I eat the cost. My error. My mistake. One of my sales people do the same thing...I will honor it. So once again, VZW is offering a phone to them at a price that they probably are quoting in error. VZW should honor that price or fix their system. Plain and simple...
