Contract being terminated can the phones be used elsewhere?

Verizon Wireless has agreed to terminate my contract early due to coverage issues at my home.
They apparently don't want the 2 phones back, so can these phones once my contract is terminated be used on other Verizon Wireless accounts (i.e. given to family members who have VW service, etc.)? Possibly even used on pay as you go?

Thanks,

(If I may ask)
1)Where are you that service didn't cut it?

I'd be surprised if they wanted them back.

I'd keep them for 911 calls, and *611 future coverage checks!

If they are being shut off and not listed as missing or stolen, I believe they can be used and re-activated on anyone's Verizon Wireless Account.

If you go to the Verizonwireless.com site and register, (the person who might be the recipient if the phone has to do this) there is a utility there which allows you to switch to that phone for free and instructions on how to activate it.
If the person is looking to get a new account, it would make little sense to activate a used phone with all the promotions that come with a new account.
