Need a New Phone Soon

I know...there are a lot of "what phone should I get" postings out there, and this is another one...

I need a good tri-mode phone for Verizon. Currently I have the Audiovox 8900 which has been great, but it is starting to die. Audio quality has gone considerably downhill recently, as has reception (I am dropping a lot more calls than I used to). I tried the Motorola v325, but I was not impressed. Call reception was not that much better. I want a phone with good audio quality and the best reception I can find, and I do need analog as well. As far as features are concerned, I would like speakerphone, but that's really about all I care about. My one picky thing is the external display - I want a phone with an external display that stays lit ...

You should probably go with an LG phone. The VX8300 or VX9800 are two of the highest rated phones right now. Not sure how much you're looking at spending but these are both great phones.

If you weren't happy with the V325, nothing will make you happy. I live out in the middle of BFE, and we get great reports about its reception all the time (anywhere about ten miles out of town is analog only). You could also try the LG VX5200 or the Nokia 6256i, but neither are going to have the outside display on all the time.

Yeah, the 4650 is also really good. I always forget about those because we never have them in...

You can set the VX5200 to always have its front display on. May kill you battery pretty fast but you won't have to hit any buttons.

How do you set the display to be on all the time?

I actually had the 5200 for a week or so, and it had this annoying high-pitched noise when I used it. I read some reviews and forums, and it seems that it's a common problem with that phone and there was no fix for it. That was a couple months ago. Do you know if this is still a problem with that phone? Will the 5300 have this problem also?

Hard to say what the pros and cons of the 5300 will be. Nobody's had them to distribute to the mass population yet.

Samsung A930 is not tri-mode but it does stay lit up all the time... It is not a color display but its a cool blue color... I had it and never had to press a button to see time or missed calls...

Its not as good as my LG 8300, but its a good phone nevertheless... IMO
