Chocolate MP3s

here's an interesting question:

Will the Chocolate, "part MP3 player, part phone", have the capability of downloading MP3's to listen to and use as a ringtone, or will we have to pay for them, ala traditional VZN B.S.?

What has the last few phones been like, such as the Sam a990 and the 8300? I haven't checked up on them, but now that I might be interested in the Chocolate (check the reviews b4 you buy, people!) that seems like an important piece of 411 I want to know beforehand. Otherwise, I'm grabbing that 8300 that has been the rave so far.

Thanks!

i can't imagine why it'd be any different than current pricing. It'd be nice, but highly un-verizon.

Wow, I have no clue what you meant by that...so as of right now, you can't download MP3's to any Verizon phone? I read that the RAZR V2 you could...which was a "slipup"....

That's horrible if VZN is calling the Chocolate part MP3 player when you have to buy the MP3s to play them!!!

I also read you can send MP3s to your #[email protected]

You do not have to purchase your mp3's from VZW, The Vcast Music kit will convert just about any type sound file then synch it with the phone. As for setting them as ringtones.. probably not. The only phone I know of that you can transfer free ringtomes to your phone is the Motorola v325 (nice phone by the way, navigator too)

most of verizon's vcast music phones have "Music Players" Not Mp3 players because they play WMA (windows media player 10) You can either buy them from vcast music, transfer with a music essential kit, or put them on your memory card in the correct format. all 3 ways will allow you to play music on your phone. The 8300 allows you to send short mp3 clips to your phone via email attachments and save those as ringtones. the music files (WMA's) Can't be used as ringtones without hacking. no one knows yet if you will be able to send ringtones to the chocolate but everything else will be the same or similar.

health's original question was "Will the Chocolate, "part MP3 player, part phone", have the capability of downloading MP3's to listen to and use as a ringtone, or will we have to pay for them?"

will it play mp3's/wma's: yes
can you have a true tone as your ringtone: sure
can you take an mp3 you have on your phone and use it as a ringtone: no

you will have to either buy it through get it now or hack the phone with bitpim. either way it will be two seperate files.

it has been this way for awhile, there is no reason for Verizon to change their business practices for the small percentage of people who give a damn or even know the diffence (ie us).

they won't change it until it isn't profitable anymore and/or becomes illegal.

Found in "Phones" "LG". Thanks matrix2004

You need a card reader/writer. The one most people use is about $20.00 You can get it from a Verizon store or Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Just put the card into the reader, then plug the reader into a usb port on your pc then copy mp3's, pics,.3gp videos to the card. Make sure you copy each different file type to the correct folder on the card. After you're done, exit out of the reader, take out the card, put it back into the phone and that's it. As for ringtones, use the Audacity program to cut mp3's down to about 30 seconds and around 69kbs. Also raise the volume to the point right before it gets distorted. Save it as a .mp3, rename the file extension from .mp3 to .mid. Finally, e-mail the .mid ...
