Yes there is a difference btw WCDMA and CDMA. They are not compatiable so to speak though they are similar

CDMA and WCDMA differ because CDMA is obviously uses the CDMA network and WCDMA is also known as UMTS and it is based on the GSM network as an upgrade.
CDMA and WCDMA/HSDPA are incompatible to work on each other’s network.
The frequencies for WCDMA are; 2.1 GHz in Europe and Asia and in North America WCDMA is deployed in 1.9 GHz and 850 MHz.
The frequencies for CDMA are mainly; 800 MHz and 1.9 GHz. (Others too)
This phone might be for Cingular, and/or T-Mobile in the United States because of GSM/GPRS but on the WCDMA 2100 (2.1GHz) platform it will not be any United States carrier.

Neither Cingular nor T-Mobile will pickup this phone w/o the 850 band. Cingular especially won't pick it up since a majority of their network is 850, and T-Mobile now requires all their phones to have the 850 band in order to allow their phones to roam on the carriers with the 850 band.
