Just a few years ago the cool thing out there was changing a banner or soldering a different color led's onto the nokia's main board?

People would bitch that they couldnt change the banner or that they couldnt find a cool enough faceplate. Now poeple complain about the UI's or mp3's vs. windows format.

In a couple of years it will be something completely different that people complain about.

Just an observation, im bored.

I remember my first phone was a Audiovox and it didn't even have a color screen. Then color screen phones started coming out and i upgraded to a LG4400 and i was like drooling over it cuz it had one. Then i got the Moto V710 and now the LG8300. Now i'm like, i gotta have stereo bluetooth,mp3 player and voice recognition. How times change.

Another example of how things have changed is 6 years ago a nokia 5120 phone was selling for $149 and nobody was blinking about spending that amount of money on a cell phone, now days people gripe about paying $50 for a phone with Color screen, bluetooth, mp3, camera, video camera, speaker phone, internet, email, GPS navigation, and all kinds of stuff.

We are spoiled now.

Back in 2002 I had an LG 4ne1 (sprint) and I thought it was the coolest thing because the bottom flipped open and I could download really crappy ringtones (which I thought were cool at the time), and change out the accent pieces.

Looking at it now, it seems so dull. We most definitely are spoiled now. And our customers are way too spoiled with how little we charge for the phones now.

Back when I first started selling phones we would make $200 out the door on a phone, and then $400 back end on comissions. Now were lucky to make $125 on a phone. The worst thing that ever happened to the cell phone business was subsidized phones, both to retailers and to customers, it would be so much easier to sell a replacement phone to a customer at the price they bought it, and still make a profit, that way everybody is happy.
