A third party that is misinformed, as EV-DO is nowhere NEAR nationwide.
EDGE is up and running on 2/3 of our network and should be nationwide by end 3Q.

two markets? don't make me laugh... and that info was confirmed right here on PS last week!

A nationwide LAUNCH means that it has been done... launch is present tense,as in the launch is underway. Launched would be past tense. Future tense would be pre-launch, or will launch.
Therefore, as I stated before, the article implies something that has not happened yet HAS happened, and is misleading at best, if not downright DECEPTIVE.
I only ask this because Cingular is emplimenting that umm.. well i forget the name of it but it gets speeds faster than home broadband...
Cingular plans on implementing UMTS/HSDPA in early 2005. AWE has already got UMTS up in four markets, as per a deal they made with NTT DoCoMo prior to the buyout being an issue. Cingular has testing of these technologies underway in the Atanta market, but I believe it is primarily in-house at the moment.
UMTS/HSDPA is capable IN THEORY of speeds as high as 14.4 Mbps, or about 9.6 times faster than residential broadband's best speeds of 1.5 Mbps.
once again an research company cannot please the pimp. it never said it was nationwide. the key word here is LAUNCH. but it will be here soon so dont you worry a bit there big guy.

According to the report, "Verizon Wireless remains the leader in wireless service with the best coverage and data technology in the business. This reads as if they have ALREADY LAUNCHED EV-DO nationwide. We all know 1xRTT is nationwide, and to put EV-DO in the same context is nowhere near true.
It would have had to be worded as such: ...its launch of 1xRTT nationwide, and its continuing deployment of 1X EV-DO, which is currently in a few markets with plans to go nationwide.

😡 Dirt!!!
That article, with its inaccuracies, will eventually be seen by countless people who will assume it to be true, and VZW will never even TRY to correct the author.
Yet other carriers do significant things, and you hear NOTHING of them.
ATTWS rolls out UMTS in four markets 5 months ahead of schedule, Cingular has 2/3 of its network EDGE-capable, T-Mobile gets the go-ahead and finances to implement EDGE, Cingular begins testing UMTS/HSDPA... how many people outside the industry are aware of all of these?
