I need help selecting a good tri-mode phone

I'm trying to get a new phone for my dad. He needs something that will get the best use out of VZ coverage area.

First off, I'm in Arizona, and most of the state is analog coverage. About 50% of his calling that he does is in the analog area. He travels that state for work and his Samsung A310 is just not cutting it.

He needs a phone that works. Not one that has anything extra on it, like a camera. It doesn't matter if it is A color screen or not. The only thing he asks is that it be a flip phone. It also has to be very durable (his phones take a lot of abuse through normal everyday use for his business).

I've heard that the V60s gets a good signal, is that true?

Any help would be appreciated. Remember, it has to be a...

Personally, i am not a big fan of the V60. Some say it gets good signal. but i dont think so. Nokia is always a solid phone. just well made, with little bugs. I think the metal that is on the v60 causes some problems with reception as well.

It really depends on your area. Some people swear by the MO V60's but I am not a huge fan of Motorola phones. I would try one of the LG tri mode phones (LG 3200, 510, etc.)or even the Nokia 3589i which many customers have told me get really good reception in fringe areas. I have used LG phones for over 5 years and have had really good service everywhere with them- even in the analog areas.

Check out the LG VX4400 - this has been a good phone for over a year now. The only problem is that is going away - so not everyone may have it in stock. It is a flip phone with a color display - it may not be the most rugged phone ever made, but by today's standards it is not too bad. The Nokia 3589 has been an excellent phone for reception - but it is not a flip phone.

If you could hold out for the Audiovox CDM-9900 you would be happy. Problem with that phone is we have anticipated it since last March, and to date it hasn't been released. No one can get any kind of press release out of either Verizon or Audiovox? It would bee a great phone if ... if you could get your hands on it?

I haven't had much luck with the lg vx4400 in fringe/rural areas. The moto v60 has better reception than the lg vx4400, (I've had both) but don't know about the moto v60s. Think it's different than the v60.

interesting to hear that your having trouble with the 4400. I hear normally they usually work good in Fringe areas. I myself am leery of sending out a V60S to a customer with reception issues, the I or C did very good but the S just seems to have issues keep coming up. You may want to try that new samsung A650, I don't know how well it is for those areas, but its Tri-mode and Samsung ususaly does damn good with their phones.

Greetings from a newbie. I just wanted to double-check that the forthcoming Motorola v710 is, in fact, a tri-mode phone. According to the specs on this site, it appears to be.

VZW was gracious enough to annotate my account and allow me to trade in my six-week-old Samsung 670 for this new Motorola when it's released after I traveled to New Mexico and got stranded somewhere between Vaughn and Roswell and couldn't make a call. I learned the hard way what distinguishes a tri-mode phone from an all-digital handset like my Samsung! Even though it was totally my fault for not educating myself about what I'd need as a frequent traveler to NM, VZW was kind to bend the rules for me. I just want to make sure that phone that I'm considering getti...

I really really recommend the 710! This phone and the LG-8000 when it comes out will be two very cool phones.

I am waiting on the LG-8000 which is not a tri-mode, but I haven't had a signal problem at all with my LG-6000 which is all digital.

I might even get this 710, once we get it in Indiana, I will try it out. But the LG 8000 looks very nice also. Good Luck with it if you get it!

Dont know if its been mentioned by anyone else before but I've heard an interesting bit of info on the V710's bluetooth capability. Apparently the bluetooth on this phone will only work on the headset, car kit, and speakerphone that will be sold by VZW. T...

what you're forgetting is that VZW has Get It Now and with bluetooth being able to connect to a PC why bother using their service when you can import your own ringtones so readily.....you dont think that's reason enough to have that block put in place????

If Motorola's site claims different all the better but what Im saying is that I heard different and it made sense that VZW would block those such connections to save their revenue from customers downloading data products
