Q as a modem?

Hi all,

Lately I've had a few customers coming into the Best Buy I work at asking if the Q can be used as a modem for a laptop per say. Seeing as how little I know on the product I figure it can't hurt to post a topic here.

So my question is A. Can it be used as a modem and B. If so, how?

Thanks.

my understanding is the blackberries, treo 700p(palm based) the sansung i730 affter a software update, are the only pda devices that currently support tethering, as far as I know they have not officially released this option for the newer windows based devices. That is off the top of my head and per verizon, wether or not you can rig it up is a different question but if you go by the book and company policy those are the ones available. the blackerry also has a 30 day free trial to try the tethering option for free(if you have qualifying data plan already on device) after that it is an exta $15 bucks a month on top of the unlimited data package.

Well, what happened with one customer was he bought an air card for a laptop, and a RAZR, and he wanted to know if he could just get rid of the aircard and razr and go with a Q and use that as a modem for his laptop

yes, but he is a rep should he be telling people that? his question was to find an answer for a customer, i have been told if someone asks for tethering to sell the blackberry or palm 700p. I rigged up my 6700 to use it as a modem as well, but technically your not supposed to by the Verizon Empire code of conduct and i would never tell a customer how to either. so, moral dilemma, should he be telling a customer he can do that, it could(note i said could) come back to bite him in the arse, maybe verizon catches customer doing and starts charging customer or cuts him off, or maybe they found out a rep told a customer he can do this, thus risking his job. just things to think about.
