Opinions please....

I have a LG VX4500 and need more than the approx 3 hrs of talk time. It is looking like I'll need to purchase another battery. My questions are:

1) Can you swap batteries without the phone losing stored date (ie phonebook)?

2) Are there alternatives to purchasing these batteries through VZ or LG that offer equal performance? Are there any aftermarket batteries that hit OEM specs?

After reading another thread, it seems like this forum is split on where to buy accessories. I'd appreciate any thoughts on batteries.
