How is this possible? Can someone explain....

It's caused because the handset is being required to search for signal more often. This is most likely due to the test being ran only make EVDO open for about a minute at a time. There are hundreds of these tests ran each day. It's similar if you're in an area where you constantly switch between analog and digital. The constant searching for the strongest signal requires more battery output. I've noticed the same thing in my market, too when EVDO was being tested.

My E815 battery life went from about 1 1/2 days to 5 days when I disabled EVDO because the reception is flakey at work. (When I'm not at work, I get 5 days even with EVDO on.)

I had to disable EV-DO on my Samsung a930 because it's still spotty in northern Lake County Indiana, while in southern Lake County, south of St John & Crown Point, there is no EV-DO service. Lowell Indiana, where I work, already has spotty 1X service, and with EV-DO on, my battery is down to 2 bars before my shift is up. The Samsung a930 has 4 bars for battery life. At home in Gary Indiana, EV-DO was weak at only 1 bar when I got the phone, but has since been upgraded to full signal strength from the 500' tower less th...
