Mail in rebates suck!

Is there any reason why VZW can't have on-line rebates rather than the mail in process? Costco, Staples, Circuit City all do rebate submissions on a website. Customers hate, I hate dealing with it, having to explain it. Hearing complaints about customers that threw the box away or lost the receipt or lost the form, blah blah blah. Is there a logical, reasonable explanation?

VZW does have instant rebates if you upgrade online... They are manuf rebates and they do work most of the time if they are submitted properly.. The reason for being instant online is an incentive to use web vs. calling in speaking w/rep .. Most customers will go online if they know it is instant..
