Need info - just switched to VZ from ATT
VZ reps - I'd like to ask for some advice. I have a phone with a number (temporary) assigned to the account. I have started the porting process (which will take about 2 days). Of course when that happens I'll have my old ATT number on my VZ account. I have already activated the phone - will it have to be re-programmed after the new number is ported? If so will this erase all of my settings and contacts? If so, I'll wait to enter all of that until its over, if not then I'll take care of it now so the phone is good to go when my number is ported. Please advise....

If you have already set up everything on your VZW phone then what will happen is, once the port is complete you will recieve a text message stating that everything is fine...at that time you dial *228 and SEND then listen to phone as if you are on a regular phone call. After a moment you are going to want to follow the prompt and press 1 to program the phone...anything you have already set up or saved on the phone will stay the exact same..you will not have to input anything new into the phone or start over once the phone is programmed...hope this helps!

I thought there was a policy to do away with temp numbers unless absolutly nessary (such as Type 1's, which this is deffently not if he is coming from AT&T) due to the high costs and trouble they cose. He'll only get the txt msg if his phone is currently programed for the MDN/MIN of his current phone number he is porting. if he has his phone as he says, on a Temp number, he will not get a txt msg letting him know the transfer is compleat. Now from my understanding in the case of temp numbers and someone faxed in a MDN change form request for porting, someone should be calling the customer letting him know it will be complate. I'm worried though that if someone isn't monitoring the account, the customer will end up with 2 numbers and one will...

Yeah as far as I was aware we've pretty much taken away all need for the temporary #'s( God that was a pain when LNP first came out) so as to why he got one I have no clue!

Even if he got a temp#, when the port is complete the temp# will disconected; all he would have to do is *228. It's basically like a MDN change. The port dept requires cust's to call and check the port status.

ahh, well then he'll probly want 877-567-4899 for his records then. This number is compleatly automated, it will just till him the status of the port and then hang up. If there is fall out, it will transfer to a rep who can fix it. At least thats what I have for this.

Many thanks for all of the info. I already like VZ people much more thant ATTWS. As for why I have a temp number, here is what happened:
I purchased my plan/phone via a 3rd party (VZ agent) since they offered a %100 rebate on my VX4500. However, they neglected to tell me until after the purchase was completed and the phone shipped that they could not coordinate with VZ to port my number from ATT (I have no idea why). They simply set up my account with an assigned number, and told me to have VZ port my old number once I received the phone. I went in a filled out the form at a VZ store today. I did not realize that this so rare. I'm holding my breath to see how this port thing works out. I suppose I'll contact customer service after...
