Moto v265 - 2 dead phones and 3 months until NE2

In January of '05 we purchased 4 v265. In June of '05 my daughters phone would only work as a speaker phone. Verizon was great about handling it and replaced it with no hassles. At the time I started noticing all the issues with reliability this phone was having.

Jump forward to 3 weeks ago. My phone started acting up and it would only work as a speaker phone. Then last Friday, my son's phone tanked. People can hear him talk but he can't hear them through any of the three options (up to his ear, speaker phone, or headset).

On Monday we took both phones into the local Verizon store. The tech tried reviving both of them. She made it sound like there was a routine that might revive the phones after reflashing them but she couldn't...

Ok first the two phones you mentioned activating are not GPS capable so they cannot be reactivatied!
Second, If your spending that much money and have been you should be eligible for MERITS REWARDS. Call CS (611 press 0 0 to get right to somebody instead of waiting through all the BS) and ask about merits rewards, also explain your issue and see what they are willing to do to help! Be nice just like you were with your post and you will get alot farther. IF ALL ELSE FAILS EBAY!

First off yes motorola v265 have problems but it sounds like the phones may have got water damage in some way. Verizon does offer a early upgrade on primary lines only in some markets. the is called merit program you can check on that. We are located in ohio I may be able to look at replacing the earpieces to get them to work also.

Thanks

Water Damage . . . NOPE! It was the typical slow fade to oblivion for my phone. (The person on the other end of the line got further and further away until one day no sound without speaker phone or headset.)

My son's was abrupt but not because it went swimming. If nothing else, his phone died out of boredom. He averages 45 minute per month. (He's 16 now and I suspect his usage will increase when the right young lady crosses his path.)

I guess I'll have to try and find a local seller on ebay.

I'd go to the local store and ask if they can help you, possibly with refurbished units. They may offer them for a $50 fee, exchange, etc. You can always say 'thanks for considering it' and buy something from Ebay. They can tell instantly if it's been in H2O.

I made the decision to purchase the phones. I also made the decision not to purchase insurance on them. Now I have to make the best of a couple of bad decisions. While I was there I checked on when I could take advantage of my NE2. Our last upgrade was Jan 29th, 2005 so I can use it as early as Nov 29th. Now comes the difficult question, what do I do until then?

Wow, a responsable customer, dont see that very often. Kudos 🙂

"...Worse case I'll scrounge up a couple of older phones and get them activated. I think we have an LG TM510 and a QCP-6035 laying around..."

Unfortunately these spares are not GPS enabled and can't be activated. My recommendation, go on Ebay and pick up a replacement. If your looking for cheap, go with LG vx 3100 (monochrome screen, no external LCD, a real dinosaur) which is GPS enabled, very reliable, and can probably be picked up for around $15 including shipping. Make sure you deal with a highly rated seller.

I would highly recommend to everyone that you ALWAYS keep a GPS enabled spare phone. They can be activated on-line so if your phone dies you can immediately transfer service to the spare. Even if you are eligible for an upgrad...

I second this motion!
Also, I thoroughly reccomend back-up assistant. for a measly $2/month, It has saved me a lot of grief with the thought of loading 400 numbers into my phone, and when my wife's E815 went very dead when I was 3000 miles away from home, I was able to talk her through activating the 'spare' phone and downloading all her office phone numbers in a total of about 10 minutes.

Also- as far as 2 dead phones- no mention is made about why they failed- user error/damage or simple failure. If it was user induced, I agree- it's just one of those things. If it was an equipment failure, often the store will provide an exchange phone for no...
