I just upgraded my phone on a NE2 plan; long long time customer (early 90's) and always been pretty happy. I had the V6000, loved it but was getting a bit long in the tooth, I wanted a much better camera than that crappy VGA thing and so on (not to mention phone lust) so I went for the 8300. It seems to be a very very good phone; I had the 6000 so long I missed all of the crap about Vz's UI, my phone still had the old one.
Well, you guys were right. The new UI is pretty bad but not a deal breaker. I was a bit shocked at how Vz has managed to turn their phones into nothing more than tools for them to make money with the damn Get it (the money) now. I couldn't even brouse the pix place to see it I wanted to buy without paying upfront firs...

Well I dare you to go to T-mobile, I can almost promise you will be back, so please go to T-crap you'll see. Everyone compplains about this UI, it works, it does the job, quit complaining, you have a cell phone to talk on if it does that then shut up. By the way coverage on T-crap is terrible Gsm is only for over seas travelers, if you stay in the U.S. you can't beat CDMA, plus CDMA is far more advanced(this is true do your homework) Well I could be wrong but thats my 2 cents.

what are your thoughts on cingular?

you were not gonna get good replies in this particular forum where defense of a cell phone company is strong and where u will get bashed for critizing a company when everything is subject to critisism
, you chose whatever works for you and if ur having problems with your current service or if it doesnt satisfy your needs, you are fortunate to have a choice to chose what company you want to go under and even what technology to use, the whole cdma vs. gsm argument is a moot point, both have strenghts and weaknesses, chose a carrier that works for you and try to ignore the whole this carrier is better than that carrier bs

Ya, thanks; I can see that now; boy oh boy, some us are a little touchy eh, esp that dawgie person (lol). Read it again kid, I've been a customer since '95 so Ican say anything I want, I've spent a lot of money with this company. I was just mussing about what direction Vz is going, seems like their only focus is Get The Money and I'm tired of it. On the other hand I freely admit they have the best service (I don't recall having a dropped call in years-a fact) and I've been treated really well when I call customer support-no complaints there; as far as pricing plans, face it, their all competitive (have to be) and I do have a T-Mobile account for my fiancee so I'm familiar with them (not bad actually). But I know in a year I'm going to ge...

So what if they are focusing on making money. Isn't that what they are supposed to be doing. If you don't like get it now don't use it, there are plenty of ways around it. I haven't used it in a couple of years.

Pix Place is your Free Web Account(sorta like having hotmail or g-mail but for pix) to store up to 75 pix from your phone to the web. You need Mobile Web ($5 a month) or V-Cast ($15 a month) to access it from your phone but you can access via your PC on the web at no charge. Pix Place is not part of Get It Now. So... VZW isn't charging you for everything, yet. Sure you can return the phone and go to a 1 yr, but you lose the NE2 discount and you pay $50 more for the phone over the 2 yr pricing. If you think the grass is greener, return your phone, go back to your 6000 till you try all the other companies you want. When your done, you still have your NE2 available. Unlocked phone isn't all that, sure you have a choice of phones from any GSM ca...

Give T-Mobile a shot. Its not a matter of the grass is greener on the other side, its a matter of just seeing whatelse is out there. You will love the fact you will save more money with T-Mo, no, we don't take away nights & weekends, and the options for more features.
The CDMA vs GSM is, as already stated, a moot point. CDMA is great, but once 3G rolls out, CDMA will be pushed to enhance its network. That will allow companies like T-Mo and Cingular to also have video phones, broadband speeds, etc.
Its really just a matter of who fits your needs the most. Check into pricing with each company. Verizon again and T-Mobile, Cingular, etc. Look into international rates for each place. Check out the phones. Find the one that you like most wi...

Well, I do agree with renardlee and go with who you like and what works. Cingular is a good cell prvider it has the second best coverage since the merge, I have many friends with cingular and they live in other cities, they say it works perfect, they do complain about the phones and customer service. If you rerally want to get a feel for what you like go and get the phone at whatever company try it for the 15 or 30 days if you dont like it return it. I also heard some one mention that the new GSM technology is coming out, well right now CDMA is really the only one that can send video data at high speeds (ex Vcast), CDMA is also coming out with CDMAw yes this means it will work any where GSM works (bye bye GSM) Again gety the company that wo...

🤣 I doubt it. 3G will greatly improve GSM, thus making the network that much stronger. Your CDMAw will most likely require network agreements as well, so why would Cingular or T-Mobile allow for Verizon or Sprint to use their towers without receiving network expansion for themselves in return? They will likely only be able to pick up on regional GSM carriers, such as SunCom, if at all. SunCom might not even be around much longer with rumors or T-Mo or Cingular trying to buy out such companies.
I am not familar with the CDMAw, so it may or may not require the agreements. But I wouldn't und...

that would be incorrect wes. wcdma is for your gsm carriers to try to compete with cdma carriers. here's the deal. wcdma is the 3g standard gsm carriers are going to quoted from phonescoop glossary. we already have 3g cdma. and the best question is why would gsm carriers who feel gsm is better even put cdma in anything they want or need to compete or keep up. hmmmm. maybe that's why they renamed it umts? and even so it is not going to come close to true cdma speeds since it is only capable of up to 384 Kbps. that sux. always a step behind.

Have you heard of HSDPA and HSUPA??? Geez!

wow geez!!!!! yeah I have and that wasn't what we were talking about eraser. the ? was about wcdma was it not? or did I misread what was written? hmmmm cdmaw...wcdma...or hsdpa. I think I can tell the difference in the accronyms, can you? how about u go back to the koolaid section in the cingy forum. thanks. 🙂

what is up with you and the koolaid crap 😳
Nobody drinks koolaid anymore 🤣

wcdma was not renamed umts, umts was an upgrade
first it was wcdma, then umts, now hsdpa, then hsupa.

LOL Dude! do you have any idea of what you just said? CDMAw? If you are referring to WCDMA, then let me informe you that WCDMA is it NOT compatible with CDMA. WCDMA is the GSM upgrade path to 3G.

WCDMA
(Wideband Code Division Multiple Access)
Wideband CDMA is a third-generation (3G) wireless standard which utilizes one 5 MHz channel for both voice and data, initially offering data speeds up to 384 Kbps.
WCDMA is also referred to as UMTS - the two terms have become interchangeable.
WCDMA is the 3G standard that most GSM carriers are moving to. Parts of the WCDMA standard are based on GSM technology. WCDMA networks are designed to integrate with GSM networks at certain levels. Most WCDMA phones include GSM as well, for backward compatibility.
WCDMA borrows certain technology ideas from CDMA, as the name implies, but is in fact very different and incompatible with phones and networks using "CDMA" technology.

so does that mean in a year or so that cingular phones wont be able to be used in europe since europe will be using differnt frequency. or will say cingular pay more for extra frequency on there phones to work over there.
...
Nope. In Europe, that is the dedicated band for 3g, while 900 and 1800 are for voice only.
...
to supplement what you said, WCDMA borrowed elements of CDMA, not the Qualcomm standard of CDMA,
cdma technology has been around for 40 to 50 years

You say you want to go T-Mmobile?? I too left VZW trying for better service and GSM technology. Here I am back in 5 1/2 months with VZW just signing a new 2 yr agreement. Sure T-Mobile has its perks (lower cost for everything). I sold my PEBL and payed the ETF from T-Mobile and never looked back.
When I went into the VZW store to port my number back over, the VZW girl and myself were talking about all the different carriers and she called T-Mobile Terrible Wireless. I had never heard of that before. Then I told her I call Cingular Suckular and she said she never heard of that one. Don't get started on Sprint. I don't even think they know the meaning of Customer Service.
