Phones uninspired; NYC-go TMobile?; what holds the future?
I've been a Verizon customer for over three years now. My latest contract is up and I find the phones completely boring. I'm ready for a new phone...now. Their current selection is just plain lame. I'm starting to look at T-Mobile - I mean, I went into the store and wandered around going 'oooo' and 'ahhh'. Plus, they're cheaper - both plans and phones.
1) I'm in NYC, should I switch to T-Mobile?
2) If I do stay with Verizon, what do I have to look forward to?
a) I don't want a smart phone - I'm on a computer all day dangit
b) I want something VERY SMALL - talkin' Pebl or Trace
c) I don't need waterproof (sorry Gunny)
d) I don't care about cameras
e) I text, but don't need a qwerty, but do need something useful like T9 or itap - Noki...

Interesting situation you are in. Leave a much-respected company for an upcoming company. I suggest that you wait a few months or so to have T-Mobile improve on many areas of their businesses. They obviously did a pretty good job at buying new spectrum for key areas, but that could take some time to put into the network. They are obviously coming out with a UMA type device next month or in the upcoming months, which could perhaps entice users. I look at their phone portfolio and I like them, the problem is, should you leave Verizon to go to T-Mobile? I think that you should perhaps answer that yourself because none of us knows how in NYC the reception is for both companies we just know about the products and services they offer. Take advanta...

It really depends on what is most important to you. Do you us allot of 'IN' minutes? If yes will your tmobile plan cover it with ease? I have used tmobile and found their voice quality to be very good, but not as good as verizon. Are you willing to sacrifice a little voice quality and allot of coverage to own the phones that are more appealing to you? If you don't sign up on a tmobile family plan you have to pay extra to have mobile to mobile, will that be an issue for you? There is so much freedom with GSM but you just have to do your homework and make sure it will work out for you. Have you looked at the tmobile coverage map in your area? and does it look good? although tmobile is expanding their coverage area they are still very sub-par i...

If you live in the City then most likely most cell phone companies will give you good coverage... Once you go out is a different story. If you only stay in the city and never wander off then I would go with tmobile... Better phones and plans... If you plan on going to Nassau county for example, good luck!

On my account we went from cingular(billing issu es was too often) to tmobile. that was a mistake. Most places it worked well, however i found in-door reception was horrible. While on City college campus, service was off and on in most of the buildings. We use most of our service in Manhattan on the Upper west side. The phones we had was the nokia 6101. Staten island was a dead zone. it refused to work on the cingular network to roam., outerbridge crossing area was off and on. In april we switched to verizon. The network is a major improvement. Hope that helped a bit.

Not going to attempt to "down T-Mobile" but I do know they tend to have network outages, frequently and sometimes for extended periods of time in NYC... Thinking it is possibly due to an overload of calls on their cell sites.
Personal experience, if VZW has a network issue it is resolved very quickly, I have experienced T-Mobile having issues with network extending beyond 24-48 hrs in major city's.. Hold on for awhile, holidays coming new phones! 😎
