Ok so here is my story:
In September of 2002 I purchased a motorola V60 with a 2 year plan of $40 a month. In about October 2003 my family decided to get verizon as well so I took my plan and incorporated it into the family plan. Since I knew about cell phone plans I did all the work for my family. I talked to the sales agent who got me a great deal on some phones, and a great deal on the family plan. One of my concerns when getting the phones was if my family was going to get NE2 after two years was up, and he said yes definitely. I also asked that since I only had a year left until I had my phone for 2 years that I would be eligible in September 2004. He said yes.
Well cut to today. With the release of the V710 I figured th...

This is really strange, but when I signed up 2 years ago for phones, I was told the same thing...both phone lines would be eligible...the contract we signed even itemized a NE2 option under each of the phone lines...

The new every two SHOULD only be on lines w/ a price plan of $34.99 or higher. Given that, secondary lines SHOULD not be eligible because they cost $20/month. To get NE2 your plan must be $34.99 or higher and be renewing a 2yr contract after completing your original 2 yr contract.
NOW, there is a feature that can be added onto your acct that says "New Every 2" that when added onto your acct, it makes a NE2 upgrade date show 22 months exactly from the day it was added on the account. The people who are processing the order are suppose to still qualify the customer for the promo pricing. Just because its on the feature list on the account don't nessarly mean your suppose to get it.
There are also many sales reps who make "mistakes" i...

Thanks for all the responses. Another problem that I somewhat created myself was that when I switched to the family plan, I did not make my number the primary one, therefore technically I was one of the phone lines only paying $20 a month. So I am assuming that even though I have been a customer of Verizon for 22 months now, I still will not be eligible for NE2?
Also do you think my chances are better if I go into an authorized verizon store and talk to a sales guy and a customer service rep, or on the phone?
At this point all I really care about is paying the introductory price for the V710 and not the full $500. The $100 would be nice to have but I could deal without.
...
If your not going to redeem the ne2, I would recomend purchasing the phone online on www.vzw.com primarliy because the mail in rebate online is a point of sale discount, nothing to mail in--so you get the discount on the spot.
...
First--if you've primary phone qualifies for the NE2, you can get the upgraded phone, and use it on your non-primary line. I've done that before. You can switch the 2 phone between lines anytime on-line by activating on-line, over even at the store.
If your primary phone doesn't qualify for the NE2 yet, sign onto your account on-line and select "Upgrade Phone". On the non-primary phone, you get a discounted price as long as you sign a new one or two year contract (bigger discount with 2 year contract). I believe you get the same price as a new customer signing a 2 year contract on the non-primary phone line which never qualifies for a NE2 discount. The discounted price is still $100 more than the NE@ price from what I've seen.

on line doesnt work for family share plans,so if primary line qualifys for upgrade, then get it that way, then call customer service to do an esn change for phones, put 710 on your line and your phone on primary,or call customer service with your dad or mom,who ever is primary and who can do changes on account and have you put as primary phone. then wait a couple of days and go into store to get new phone on your line, would help if you still had paper work, like bills from when you had service in your name, before going to family share.if you have this documentation then you shopuld be able to get ne2.if not do a primary change and you should still be able to get the promo price of 319.99 minus 70.00 mail in rebate for phone. i just got early up...

The above way sounds like it would work. But I have the family share plan here in Illinois, and access my account online, and it shows both of my numbers and statement covering both numbers. I'm able to do the NE2 and also replace the 2nd line phone at any time for the promo price by agreeing to a new 1 or 2 year contract. I've replaced the second line twice in the last year. I then sign online onto my account, and switch the ESN online using the phone activation option by myself, no charge. Maybe that online phone family share equipment changes aren't available all over the country. FYI, here in Ill

I whole-heartedly agree that the A670 is a very sweet phone. I was waiting for the V710, but when I saw and tried the Samsung A670, it did everyone I wanted, and did them really well. I esp. like the excellent call clarity on both ends, and the earpierce volume which is very good. I had trouble with the Moto T730 which had great call clarity, but the earpiece volume was not loud enough. I see a lot of reviews of the V710 mention the volume as an issue.

So wait........Does this mean that I have to use my NE2 promo within 2 months of my 2 year service expiring? I was under the impression that I could wait as long as I wanted to renew my contract and whenever I did I would get the NE2 discount........
Can someone clarify.....because my contact indeed just ended and I wanted to wait until the end of the year to see what new phones come out.
Thanks......

2 months till the end is the soonest you can do it. You can wait 100 years if you wanted to and still get it, I was just trying to state the soonest you can do it. Sorry about mis-wording that.

The sales reps will tell you only what they need to tell you to get you to sign the contract. There is evidently no disciplinary action or guidelines for high performing sales reps. Only the ones who don't meet their quotas which may be the ones who do tell you everything.
I would guess the guy who sold you the 'bill of goods' is one of the higher perfromers....\\

Yes the customer should read the T&C's. But what if they forgot their reading glasses? Or worse are not asked i the store to read and initial them as they do for passing on the 'insurance'.
Would that be such a bad thing?

I actually did some research on Sprint as a possible choice. The fair and flexible plan was interestin since I am an erratic user. Where as with roll over you have to build a 'bank' first. The reason I passed was threefold.
1. Many I know who have Sprint are no particulary happy with the service. Expensive. For 450 minutes the cost is $55 with 7Pm nights. Cingulat is $47 for the same with roll over
2. I am not a data hound but they seemed to have the best data plans.

With my BT phone I thow it in my center console and do not need to acess the phone to do anything when making or recieving calls.

No I get a full accounting of numbers from Cingular. I would not buy a service that did not offer that in their billing. I hvae gleaned a lot of 'lost' numbers from bills. There is an accounting somewhere i am sure as cell records are used in court cases. With Cingular it's a free option to have detailed billing as well as it was with ATT.

what do you need advice with??
...
Detailed bill is an option for everyone but due to privacy laws that are in effect no cell phone company can actually list any incoming number on your bill, the only #'s able to be placed on the bill are those that are actually dialed from the phone...if the courts or police subpoena the number they can be found but that is usually the only case

PP how does Cingular get around Privacy Laws with this. As far as I was aware Cell companies could only place numbers on the bill that are actually dialed from the cell phone...
...
Caller ID numbers ARE public domain, as far as I know. I get my bill electronically, as do most of my customers. Most folks with unlisted numbers are not displaying it on Caller ID. That would be my take on it, although I admit no not having a decisive answer. I will look into it, however.
...
She can change her phone number very easily with Verizon. (I know because I was being harassed). The details she needs to know: this service is free. Realize that the phone bill will be split on the day it is done, with the allocated minutes being proportionally split between the old phone number and the new phone number. The reason why this may be important is because of what happened to me. I had used all my minutes many days before the bill cycle date. When I switched my phone number, I ended up paying more for those minutes, as they became part of the old phone number portion of the bill.

actually when it comes to NE2 there is really only one thing...you have to have a calling plan of at least 34.99 on that plan for the 22 months that you have your phone....as for the calling plans...yes when it comes down to it with the extedned network and everything it is a lot of info...but if it's explained properly customers really shouldn't have much confusion on the subject
...
I do have to interject one thing here. Does it really make sense to upgrade the primary line on a family plan. and not upgrade the others the same way? Reps with other carriers use our upgrade fee against us, but we also will upgrade a 9.99 family line at 2 year pricing, including any rebates. So that 9.99 family line could currently get the LG C1300 in my market for 49.99 with a 50.00 Mail in rebate, and get the phone free.
Just makes more sense to me.

I do agree with the whole thing with secondary lines not being eldigleble for NE2 when the primary is. I always found that stupid.
oh, and as for not reading the terms and conditions... I'm sorry but when it comes to these cases I learned from a car deal that went very very sour and that I couldn't sue back just because I didn't read the contract that you MUST read all Terms and conditions that are there. The government wont allow you to claim ignorance in this country when your name is on that paper, so you better not be ignorant of what your getting yourself into before its to late to get out of.

I agree Wayne. But make it company policy to ensure customers understand the disclaimers before they leave the store. an ounce of prevention and all that.
I do read them and they are ENTiRELY skewed towards the vendor not having to take responsibility for even getting a signal. Customers need to know th limitations. If they did the industry as a whole would not be in the tak as far as Customer service goes.
Make it the Carrier responsibilty to have the customer initial the T$C's. Whats so hard about that. unless the carrier is afraid the customer might walk. But all carriers have nearly the same T&C's anyway. It keeps the Sales reps honest as well. Although many will gloss over the bad points with a positive spin.

but, what if were TRYING to screw them?

That's why I love the new Cingular Service Summary... it practically MAKES the rep cover all that. The first bill estimate is pretty cool too... less surprises.

Actually when I worked for the Rat Shack, they started making us do that with every Verizon transaction. We had a sheet of paper that the customer had to initial in 3-5 places and sign stating that the rep went over the service map, T&C, Price plans, Phone charges, taxes and so on AND that the customer understand that when they sign the contract, they understand the terms and cannot sue us (rat shack) or verizon for anything on these terms.
I seriously thought this is an EXCELENT idea, and if they are not doing this in stores, they need to.

EXACTLY! YOu make the customer initial other areas of the service agreement. Why not the T&Cs. I think, no I know if you made sure the customer understood the technological issues as well as the business issues regarding ETF s etc. They would not become irate at 'discovering' those later.
Legally you are on solid ground with the T&Cs. But morally and with the intent of happy customers and retention, I believe this would be a small amonut of time spent that would affect customer satisfation and service immensly. Unfortunately, you spoke to a moron. She just looked at the NEWE2 population and not your phone history. You are eligible for your credit since it has been past 22 months. You probably talked to a sales rep and since you are still "in contract" your upgrade would not pay commision to them. However, the other $20 lines will not have a credit because they are on a plan less than 34.99.
...
The prior two replies were correct, I just want to add a little more. If you purchased phones at a 2 year contract price for your family when you started them up in oct 03 then those other lines aren't eligible for an upgrade untill aug 2005. call customer service and tell them to look at 2 things: the history of what phones have been active on your line and price plan history.

I would go to the slaes person you bought the phone(s) from. Thats one of the best things about buying them in the store, the sales consultant will try to help you out and they know everything they can do and sometimes if they are wrong they will still help you out in other ways. 😁
