Where I live (Eastern Shore of Maryland), Verizon is hands-down the best network. But I am sorry to say it offers the worst lineup of phones.
I am eligible for my upgrade now, and to be honest I'm having a hard time finding something I like. I don't need fold-out keyboards, I don't want an MP3 player, and I could care less about a "business card scanner."
What I want is something anywhere near as useful as the Audiovox 9900 I have, which is crumbling and on its leg after two years of hard use. I really wish Audiovox had made a follow-up to this one.
Checked out the GZone today, and, whoa, is that one massive phone. Still, compared to the rest of the flimsy, expensive plasticky lineup, it may be my only option.
Are there any phone...

😳 What! Tell us you're joking verizon line-up is bad ass and many new phones hitting by year end. LG 9900, LG 9500, Pantech pn-820 smartphone, and I am sure that I'm missing others.
...
Fine if you like trinkets and keyboard on your phones, but I just want something solid as a brick and dependable (with a camera, and without cartoonish kiddie menus).
...
cartoonish kiddie menus 😕 😕 What are you talking about?
...
ahh the truth comes out he's a VZW UI hater! What's the lg 9500??
...
Yep sure looks that way, my bad I meant the 8600 🙂
...
dang i was getting excited too! 😢
...
There is a VX9400 coming.... but it will launch with MediaFLO (mobileTV)
...
Yea, I had the LG8600, it sucked, and still sucks.
...
The 8600 has not been released yet. What phone were you talking about?
...
Yea, they look like a little 4 year old drew the icons for the menus, its sad that with a uniformed UI, they couldn't have come up with better graphics, it looks like the fake cell phones you get at the grocery store that have candy in them.
...
Those phones suck, same UI, and no customiziation with crappy Apps. And that Pantech smartphone fell out of the ugly tree. And there is nothing impressive about the LG9900.
...
Historically VZW HAS had the worst lineup of phones...They are getting much better, but until they stop crippling phones they will never have the best lineup.
...
what features do you want in a phone and maybe we can make a reccomendation?
...
I want an FM radio, or the ability to stream FM. I want a PIM that allows me to put an address. I want to have a data/phone plan that does not cost a minimum of $80.00 per month. I want an MP3 player that has a memory card that can be loaded without removing it from the camera and can be listened to using a blue tooth headphone. I want to listen to the FM radio as well with a wireless headphone. There are examples of decent phones, just look at Sony and Nokia. I am sure I will think of more later.

Now see you actually have actual ideas.
...
Let met guess, you work for T-Mo/Cing/Sprint/Virgin/Ampd/Boost/etc.
How lame.
Really.
Whats it like being so lame?
You are so lame you should go into the middle of the desert during the monsoon season and get lost. Its really the only cure for your lameness.
😈
...
How is this then, I do not work for T-mo/Cing/Sprint/Virgin/Ampd/Boost/Etc., I do however work for the 3rd largest Oil Equipment company in the United States. Our company recently switched from Verizon to Cingular for data purposes and for oversees travel.
Verizon does have Crappy phones, with crappy menus, the same phone offers the same apps in most cases, in others it offers less. VZW just needs to get over itself, and its network. Its so "good" that it lost our business.
...
And...
Whats your point? If its all just a bunch of crap why are you here?
Thats like me going to the Dallass Cowboys website on a daily basis even though I bleed green
(Rich knows what I'm talking about - I so miss being at Broad and Pattison.)
...
I am here because this use to be THE company for wireless, now everyone is catching up/passing it, and they are taking steps backwards in technological strides.
...
Where have you been? The Crippled BT policy was always in effect. The Standard UI is just some lame complaint people come up with when weren't even a die-hard fan of a Moto, Samsung, Audvox, etc UI. Limited customization. The Flash UI is a step in the right direction for the less then 1% who need to be different. Once they launch downloadable skins on GIN then maybe you can be different, otherwise use a razr skin or bedazzle your phone. VZW does have global phones/pda/aircards, so there isn't a lack of technology. There is no US Wireless company that has a greater advantage of voice or data networks, especially since 3G rollout is not everywhere. I think people are just too impatient, it's not like the company is standing still.
...
I agree totally, and despite their network,in the long run, they will lose to GSM if they do not improve their phones.
Joey
...
Wow, someonw who feels exactly like I do. I am so tired of waiting on a decent phone from Verizon. I think Cingular is getting all the hot ones. My contract ended a couple of months ago. However, I have not solved the problem that I got everyone in my family, who lives all over the country, to change to Verizon so that we could talk without using our minutes, now, they will not change again. I may not be able to stand it though, they don't have to call be 9PM.
Joey
...
Alltel My Circle or T-Mobile MyFavs, there are options for you out there.
...
hey chappie if you don't care about all that music crap and what not then check ut the moto 325, that is an excellent phone with great reception. If you want bluetooth then there is the 5300, tri mode with bluetooth. Both those are solid phone with great rf.
...
I actually agree with you.
Perhaps they dont care since they really are a voice driver and not really a data driver. That is evident by their net adds and ev-do subscribers.

🙄 🙄 to ppl actually fall for your nonsense, why because they are testing reva, o boy 🙄 How stupid of verizon to concentrate on making and receiving phone calls, maybe if Sprint did so they could sign up more then 100,000 new customer per quarter. i wouldn't give a bucket of piss for sprint future.
...
Well, compare Sprint's prepaid and data to Verizon's. Verizon has no hope in their future with data and prepaid, while Sprint does.
The future is not all about voice it is about data. (Verizon is not on that road, while others in this space are.)
It is interesting if I say something you have to attack a company I follow. Do not forget, I follow every company in this space.
...
You act like verizon is missing the boat on data like the ship has sailed and there is no hope, this simply is not true, when there is something worthwhile to have verizon will be there to offer it, are you trying to tell everyone on this forum otherwise? Not six months ago you predicted the demise of tmobile and now you praise them, you don't have a crystal ball son quit acting like you know wtf is going down in the future. Sprint sucks and their data in not going to save them.
...
Alright guys, stop. I need to go get more popcorn, ill be right back.
...
Ouch, someone is testy.
Verizon is offering what? A weak ev-do network that obviously the network is better than Sprint’s but can not even get as close as the growth rate that they are seeing. What about prepaid? Same thing. Horrible for VZW.
I think they have missed the boat because you have t-mobile, Cingular, and Sprint going from 2/3G technologies to 4G technologies while Verizon does not have any plans. Perhaps they hope that their landline Fios does well so it will at least give some traction for people to sign on to their voice wireless service. Problem is, HSDPA and Wimax are DSL, cable and perhaps FIOS killers if what the speeds on paper are realized.
Verizon doesn’t even want to publicly state their total net adds on the...

At this point it would be tough for me to switch carriers, too. Most of my friends have Verizon, which makes the in-network worthwhile, and I get a company discount to use Verizon.
What I want in a phone is something decent, above entry-level but without MP3 and such, that is constructed like a brick. The Audiovox 9900 I have that is currently dying was like that, and it broke the mold for me on what clamshell phones could be.
At the Verizon store the other day, even the priciest phones felt cheap and easily breakable.
I asked earlier if anyone knew of phones out there that aren't offered by Verizon but can use Verizon? Any ideas?
...
Yea, see even as you just mentioned with the whole in-network calling also they do have the best network which does help, but that is just on the voice side, and that differs on the data side.
I tested the Q a few times, and actually, I did not like it because I felt it was cheap. (Same things with other devices that I have tested)
(I do want to note that VZW in the first place is not good in my area)
I am a bit confused with your question. Lol. Perhaps that is why no one has answered?
Do you mean that any future phones that are out there could be used for Verizon?
...
The Motorola V325 is a solid phone.
...
It used to be that certain phones were manufactured by outside companies that were compatible with Verizon but not offered in the Verizon stores or website.
This is what I'm talking about. Am I way off here?
...
The ESN has to be in Verizon's ESN database for it to be able to activate
...
Well, the phones that could be offered for VZ but not in stores or the website would be for beta testers and other channels that the average consumer could not get their hands on.
Wirelessbuddy also was correct in his reply to you.
...
What's so great about PrePaid? I mean if Sprint best net adds came from prepaid (Boost, MVNO), more power to them but most companies in the business with postpaid want that as well, too bad Sprint's adds was offset by the losses in Nextel.
For Data, again, it not saying VZW is standing still while others look into 4G...it's a good 2 yrs away, just cause VZW hasn't announced anything yet, doesn't mean they missed the boat. That boat is still being built.
I agree, VCast sucks in comparison to PowerVision, but it still a wireless phone market and voice is still king. With Rev A and MediaFLO on both networks, who knows what things will look like same time next year.
I'm just waiting to see what happens at the end of this month when all ...

Well, prepaid is another good revenue stream that a company can try to obtain especially since postpaid ads are starting to decline going into the future. You can do many things on the prepaid side to add and to increase revenue both data and voice.
Yea, IDEN is struggling and will continue to in the future, but the only IDEN that wont struggle is Boost.
I still don’t think that Verizon will be a strong competitor against Sprint or even Cingular or even T-mobile once they become organized and roll out HSDPA because Verizon was not even a competitor against Sprint what makes people so sure they will compete against a faster technology being HSDPA? (Well on paper)
I mean Verizon is the only one who hasn’t committed to a 4g technol...

...
I thought HSDPA was considered 3.5G?????
What makes you say that Verizon was not a competitor of Sprint?? They are the largest CDMA carrier (by subs) and have the coveted position as the #2 carrier in the nation... isnt that what Sprint is aiming for?? just asking...
...
Well if we see speeds on paper that HSDPA will deploy I think it is towards the 3.5 to 4G technology, but Verizon’s EV-DO won’t even compete against HSDPA and they can’t even compete against an inferior network of Sprint’s. therefore, that is why I am saying that in my opinion they won’t compete well against Sprint or any other 3.5/4G technology out there.
Well, when I said that Verizon isnt a good competitor especially against Sprint and others going into the future is because they only really have one thing going for them, which is voice while the other companies have voice, prepaid, and data, which allows them to differentiate themselves from the pack. I don’t look at Verizon and say look they are a threat because they can sign up man...

I am a Verizon customer and it amazes me how they manage to sign up so many subs being so expensive... at least when it comes to Voice plans...IMO...
However, one thing I can say is that I've had much better coverage and litle-none dropped calls since I switched to VZW...
...
Granted, Verizon Wireless has a very good voice network but for some reason they can’t push their customers to sign up onto their data and prepaid products which will be a problem going forward. It is the same thing with Sprint but in reverse. Last time I checked Verizon’s ARPU isnt very high against their competitors. We will check again once T-mobile and Verizon reports shortly and then modify my last statement.
This is kind of an interesting article if you are in the mood for reading;

Very interesting... it looks like a very close race.... so it will definitely be interesting to see once the new numbers post..

Very true. Look at all of the carriers and their voice and data ARPU. You can see the decline in one and the increase in the other one. Common sense tells us that voice arpu will start to feel the pressure as the market becomes more saturated. Obviously my opinion differs from others but just based on trends and other figures, it is somewhat evident that many people are choosing more data than voice. Oh well. Lol.

The Nokia is still avaliable in my area and that is a great phone just kinda ugly!
