Any new phones in the works?

Here's the deal...my contract with Verizon is up in about 5 weeks. I'm 99% sure I'm going to stick with Verizon (my wife switched to Cingular through her work and really regrets it). I'm kinda torn because I like several of the Cingular phones better than those offered by VZ, but I don't want to get a "cool new phone" and find out the service sucks. I've looked closely at the phones VZ currently has and nothing jumps out at me. If I HAD to choose today, I'd probably get the Samsung A930. I like Samsung's UI and I need Bluetooth. Other than that, I just want a good dependable phone. Has anyone heard if there are any new phones due to be released soon by VZ? I'd be willing to wait a while if it's worth it. Thanks!

I'd say stay with Verizon and not worry about the UI because Verizon's network and customer service is much better than Cingular's

I say this is a dumb discussion because its been said about a billion times. I also say Verizon doesnt care and wont change just because some people on a phone forum say they don't like it.

And I say I don't think it is because this guy obviously doesn't know verizon has cripple and turned all their phone into clones, I would appreciate knowing before signing another two year contract.

It really isn't a big deal about the UI. It really isn't. As for the BT, that may be a real factor. So I'll give you that

*claps* Well they are still a great company, where they have coverage.

The one thing that bothers me is the sure lack of communication within this company.

"Hello right hand." "Yes left hand?" "What you doing?" "None of your buisness."

The sales teams keep pitching that you will get coverage everywhare you travel in the US, but the coverage maps on VZW's sites says otherwise..and it's about time they added "Coverage not available in all areas." into thier ads.

I've worked for these guys and they were doing great, what sad is their parent company is loosing grounds, respect, and obviously money. This alone can drag this, what was such a great cerrier, down. Mind me pointing out that sure, you may get great roaming coverage th...

Again, this is different from any other celluar company how?

Lets look at the facts:

Cingular is finally getting to a point where their network integration is done. Still haven't solved their CS issues.

Sprint can't get a customer. 233k new adds for a quarter??? They are probably all existing contract customers that they have with businesses.

T-Mo... who cares?

Lets see, VZW new UI..Slow
VZW Home nationwide calling network - 70% smaller due to VZC sellout of APMS 850 to (OMG) Cingular.

Take a lood at the coverage maps between the two. There are several states where you guys claim to have the best coverage..when it's either ROAMING on non-existant anymore, yet Cingular's crawling into that area with OMG new GSM 850 towers.

As it stands VZW is stuck with CDMA 1900, trying to re-estabolish CDMA 850, but their parent company..due to money loss took the most vaulable asset away..the actual towers to use CDMA 850 on.

Just do a side by side on Home coverage areas now and see for your self. (Don't include that roaming ****..anyone can..and will cancel you if you roam too much.)

I got charged 200 bucks roaming when I went to L.A.

From now on I am asking jmac for advice on cell phones and carriers. He seems to actually have facts.

But you don't need any advice you are with T-Mobile now and they even work on the ranch!! plus you got that big pimpin blackberry phone on its way, you're Golden!!
🤣 I'm still wondering why you spend all your time on the verizon forum, you don't seem to be venting as much, could it be you are still with verizon 😲 😳 🤣

Yeah, Verizon's doomed, DOOMED I tell ya... oh wait, they're not. In fact, they just kicked everyone's butt in Q3... which is nuthin' new for them. 😎

Sorry bro, but anti-Verizon FUD out of fashion this season. Try Sprint-Nextel FUD instead... it's 'the new black'. 😁

If Verizon really was sucking as you say, and yet they're still clobbering Cingular & everyone else, then what is Cingular and the rest doing then? SUPER-sucking? 😳

All of the phones on Verizon use the same UI. The 8500 and 8300 LGs use it, but there is flash customization.

The LG Chocolate in White came out today, the LG 9900 messaging phone is coming out in Nov. The Motorola SLVR is coming out sometime in the near future. The LG 8600 Chocolate flip is coming out soon too. Finally, the Pantech PN-820 Windows smartphone flip is coming out in early November.

Yea its the same interface but its more interesting than the dull standard format. For example on the Chocolate you can pick one that looks like the Sidekick's UI.

Thanks for the info! Like I said, I'm still not totally decided. I do like Cingular's phones and I like "Roll Over", but it's not worth it if the service sucks. My wife had VZ for several years until just recently. She says her service with Cingular is nowhere near as good. Based on that, I'd like to stay with VZ, but the phones just don't do it for me. Maybe I'll hold off and just keep my current phone and contract until they get different models in.

Yeah, I had AT&T Wireless and when AT&T and Cingular merged, it got really bad.

The SLVR should be good if you like cool phones, and the 9900 should a great model if you like to text, plus it has a 2 megapixel camera 🤤

Honestly...not very closely. I used to have an LG phone (VX4400) and it was a very good phone. It's just that I've had a few Samsungs since then and I really like them. As I said earlier, the UI just made more sense. From what I gather here, all Verizon phones have pretty-much the same UI now...right? If that's the case, I guess I don't HAVE to limit myself to just Samsung. I'm not all all worried about the camera (I have a serious DSLR for that). I'm also not worried about texting or playing music. I want a good reliable, solid phone with a great phonebook, voice dial and Bluetooth for hands-free/headset.

Take a look at the 8300, I think it is the best QUALITY phone we offer, even if you dont use the bells and whistles on it, it is still a very good phone. Im not a big fan on the 930 becasue it feels cheap to me, its almost too light weight. Take a look at the 8300 and play around with it, it just feels like a good phone.

Okay...I spent some time last night reading up on the 8300. It does seem like a good phone. If you don't mind, I have a few specific questions about it which I was hoping you could answer:

1. Can it be set to Vibrate for the first few rings and then switch to an audible ring? I think Samsung calls it "Vib then Ring".

2. Does the Voice Dial software allow you to "Digit Dial" (speak a phone number)?

3. What Bluetooth headset works well with it? I want to be able to take and INITIATE a call by using voice commands through the headset.

and finally 4. Does it have any non-embarrassing ring tones suitable for a business environment?
Thanks in advance!

Yep ! ! ! THEY ALL GOT THE SAME UI ! ! !
If choosing between LG or Samsung, in my experience, Samsungs generally have the worst reception of all brands offered by VZW while LG is ist or second best for reception. Go with the LG.
