Plaxo/ Verizon offers free online contact sync between many desktop applications, which provides the data used by the BREW service. However the mobile service will cost $4.50 per month.

Problem is that all Motorola customers used to have this feature through Motorola Phone Tools for free, but the new phones, like the K1m won't work with the MPT program, at carrier direction.

So users that formerly backed up their own phonebooks can not in the future. I don't know how Nokia and others are handling the situation.

I dunno. Got disgusted with LG when they pulled the Synch profile from my wife's Choc. Her V worked with the car and now the Chocolate does not.

Keep the faith.

I promised today to moderate my rants in this forum. Ready to take over?

Moto Data CS told me today that any Verizon phone that offers the service will not be compatible with MPT, at least withe the Km1 and the future.

I'm REALLY surprised there's no hack to remove these restrictions on your phones. It's just software that's holding them back, so software can set them free again.

Why should a "hack" be needed?

It shouldn't be needed, but it's the quickest way around this block. I think it's crude of any carrier to do this, but it would be a great big "up yours" if the customers just went about reprogramming their phones on their own so that they'd work as intended, or bought directly from the manufacturer.

You cant buy directly from the manufacturer that is why people are so pissed off, you can only activate a phone that is in verizon database, and all there fones are jacked up with the commie UI, as far as hacks it going away altogether.

You could back in the day when there wasn't the communist UI, seem edits etc on the Moto E815, but now with this CONTROLLED UI they can cripple it to death, it appears to be getting even worse.

Why bother it needs to be said and there seems to be daily news of it getting worse, and the fact is bluetooth will become even that much more useful in the future, there seems to be no end to the verizon user getting shafted.

wrong. i dont know about you guys, but verizon is a business, and they want to make money. there doin a damn good job by the way.

this 4.50 a month is for backing up contacts through desktop applications. its not a feature for all the poor bums on here that cant afford it. its for the high end business users that can afford a couple bucks a month to save them time.

for all the cheapskates out there. just sign up for my account after nov 16th, and then youll be able to back up your contacts for free on our server. 😛
