Verizon PDA phones and data policy
- When synching up your PDA phone with your desktop for, say, Outlook, would Verizon charge you data minutes for using your home's WiFi network? Is that what is meant by wireless sync?
- Is there a way to disable the phones access to the Verizon data network in order to avoid Verizon data fees (similar to the way most phones can disable "Roaming" access)?
- Or, if I get a PDA phone with Verizon, I pretty much need to pay them $45/month so I can use my own wireless networks?
Thanks,
jf
the way pda works is that you pay for their pda service ontop of your rate plan, you could disable the data plan but if you do, then what the hell is the point of getting a PDA? you can disable verizon browser but you would just be paying alot of money for a phone with a keyboard. plus not all pda are wi-fi capable.
and good luck finding a rep who will sell you a pda without the data plan. people always get tempted to go to check they're email (a pda primary function) or to check they're myspace account and rack up charges cause they didn't want to pay for the pda, then come back and complain about the data charges.
Perhaps I should just get the phone with the data plan and see how it plays out. I can always drop the data plan after a month, right?
2) You can get Block NationalAccess added to your account which means the device will not be able to do pix messaging, browse the web, etc. You can still browse the web over wifi, just not have access to Verizon's data network
3) WiFi will let you browse the web and check email (not through wireless sync though)
Side Note: You're better off getting a seperate PDA than a PDA/Phone because quite frankly PDA phones suck. When the PDA side of it malfunctions, so does your phone.
you can completely disable verizon data, wifi will still work and you will not be charged to use it. this is what im doing since im around wifi networks 90% of the time.
