Bluetooth Car Kit Compatibility
For example, the V710 and it's compatibility with BMW was solved years ago. Many of the newer BT phones, like the LG Chocolate still don't work with BMW; the Motorola Q is the only phone that works with a Lexus.
Why is Verizon the only retailer that needs to publish a list like this:

You really need to let this go-I'm starting to get concerned for you this may start to impact your health.
Please just answer the question if you have the answer. If you don't know the answer, please let me know who does.
The question is being asked by the Telecom Staffers in DC who are working on the new Bill that will allow third party handsets, like the iPhone onto the CDMA networks.

the iPhone is coming to CDMA?? I would have bet a good deal of money that it would be GSM.
They are not committing yet. Here is another update from today:

Steve Jobs has been very outspoken about not releasing this through existing carriers. According to The Wall Street Journal, "Apple CEO Steve Jobs said he was wary of producing an Apple cellphone because, instead of selling it directly to the public, he would have to offer it through what he called the "four orifices" -- the four big U.S. cellphone carriers."
If the new Bill passes, it will ...

Faulty network or faulty equipment? I can see the finger pointing now...
Are you saying that CDMA is more likely to have dropped calls and no signal than GSM?
Or that it is technically infeasable to design an iPhone for a CDMA network?
The new rulings are in favor of this:

Gunny, it's the same Bill we've been working on since last year. Click on the third draft link toward the top of the page.

It now has the support of the Consumers Union and Consumer Electronics. It won't come out until next year, after the election shuffle.
Yes, the Apple phone is very similar, but like the iPod, will have many varieties.

Do you have any current info on the progress of that bill? Do you feel this bill will take a miracle to pass?
The Telecom staffers are rotating again with the new Congress. There will be no progressuntil after that happens.
The new Democratic congress will not need a miracle. The support that Apple will give to the Bill will be huge, when added to the consumer groups.
Read the related articles on that link you posted for TechEBlog, for instance. The phones will have touch screen, video conferencing and things we haven't seen before. And many their stores are going to be open 24/7 after the Mac World event in January, according to these press interviews.

Yeah, I told you this was happening sooner or later. The real war will begin when carriers blacklist these ESN's.
The public will become enraged when they can't activate them, and the Bill will be more likely to pass.
How many people carry and iPod and a cell phone at the same time, was it 20 million?
how can a carrier set quality standards when they have no control of the equipment used?
To to that extent, there should be all kinds of software coming out that would enable...

What's the design of the iPhone? I've seen A LOT of different designs. Also in that thread it said it was GSM. Is this true? Or will it come in CDMA and GSM?
The first run is going to be GSM, and then they are going to take a run at getting past the carrier blocks on CDMA. If they can't do that and still want to, they might partner with a CDMA carrier.
They expect to sell 10 million of these the first year. There are already 40,000,000 iPods in use today.

iPods IMO are a huge waste of money. I have a Zen Micro 4 GB MP3 player i bought for $100 and a 4 GB iPod Nano costs $250! I saved $150 by not buying an iPod. Plus my Zen has an FM radio and doesnt use that horrible iTunes.
I agree with you, but I'm not a music buff. Everyone from my 14 year old to my banker has one. Thing is, they ALSO carry cell phones.
Think of how many of those 40,000,000 users would like to carry one device, and how that would affect the cell phone market. How many active users does Verizon have right now?
Hell, look at how many manufacturers have been making phones for decades and still can't get it right.
If apple had made it 3 years ago, then you're talking.
The first non-mechanical digital audio player in the world was created by SaeHan Information Systems in 1997. By the end of 1999, Compaq made a significant improvement in space limitations by using a laptop hard drive for song storage rather than low-capacity flash memory. Canon took a run at The Personal Jukebox (PJB-100)in 1999, but it wasn't till 2001 when the iPod finally madde the idea popular.
Since then, a number of new digital audio players became available each promising to be an "iPod Killer", but none were.
My money is on Apple. Look h...

"ipods became popular because they were really the first popular mp3 players.."
lol..that is quite funny.. and complete nonsense..
iPods became popular because of the intuitive interface/controls/design and "hipness" that Jobs/Apple convinced people it had. I had two mp3 (Creative)players prior to my first ipod and it really was night and day between them. If your a hardcore techie then yes, you probably shun the ipod as being too commonplace(read mainstream) and lack of OGG playback.. but they aren't gunning for you.. they are competing for the dollars of the majority not the 5% that crave true lossless formats and linux compatibility..
And as for the iphone, well they already have the fanbois ready to s...

Apple shares have been trading near their all-time high in the past few days -- partly on expectations of huge Macintosh and iPod sales over the holiday season, but also on speculation by analysts that Chief Executive Steve Jobs could introduce an iPhone as soon as January.
``This is another piece of evidence that the iPhone is coming,'' Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster told Bloomberg. ``This shows they're trying to build a patent moat around the design for the iPhone.''

Many observers believe Apple, which is notorious for its secrecy around product launches, might launch a mobile phone in January at MacWorld, its annual convention and expo. But Van Baker, an analyst at Gartner, said such speculation was premature. "Every time you get close to MacWorld the rumour mill and speculation ramp up," he said.
Apple's patent application outlined plans for a device that would combine a "cell phone" and a "media player." The bulk of the application was dedicated to describing a new way of assembling the device. It contained few details about the devic...

However, even without an official line from Apple the iPhone is having an impact and Wall Street analysts believe any speculation of a delay could affect the company’s share price.

No, quite to the contrary, never had one. But I am always impressed by their innovation, marketing and success. I also admire Apple CEO Steve Jobs who has repeatedly said he was wary of producing an Apple cellphone because, instead of selling it directly to the public, he would have to offer it through what he called the "four orifices" -- the four big U.S. cellphone carriers.
