Need your expert opinion...which phone to get.

My 2yr contract is up soon and I don't plan to switch carriers. I made the mistake of getting the T720 19 months ago and wish to avoid the same mistake. I most likely will do the New Every 2 plan again.

I never play the video games and would rarely use the camera. What do you think is the best available (or soon-to-be-released) phone offered by VZW?

I'm a businessman so sound quality, battery life, and reception are far more important than the cool gadgets that phones come with. If the best phone has these gadgets, fine. I just don't have to have them.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

probably the Audiovox 8600 or the LG VX4500...biggest thing you have to watch out for is with the LG, it is an all digital phone so will not work in analog ...so if you need analog use then I owuld go with the 8600 doesn't have the camera, color display flip phone...good sturdy phone!

Thanks for the advice. Do you know much about the Samsung phones (A610 or A670)?

Actually the Samsung A650 has been selling like crazy here. It's a good solid phone, but doesn't have outside caller ID, camera, or speakerphone. But a nice solid phone.

670 is hot too if you don't mind having a camera and paying more for it.

haven't heard much about the 610.

OK. So if you had to choose from the Audiovox, LG, or Samsung phones today and as long as the price is around $100 or less, which is the best phone to get?

Keep in mind I'll most likely keep it for the full 2 year agreement.

All this info is a huge help to me! Thanks for the response in advance.

Ok this is a known problem first off.

Audiovox 8600 has a poor ringer. It has had many software issues in the past. This phone is the #1 source of customer issues I've ever seen. It always comes back. The speaker on this phone is inside the case w/o an external source so that makes the speakerphone part a joke.

The samsung phones are ok... I tend to see alot of battery issues with them such as overheating and overcharging damage. That might just be the manufacturer of this current batch of samsung batteries though. Samsung is gearing towards the "gadgety" phones IMHO. You yourself said you wanted to stay away from phones like that.

ON a New Every Two agreement, your absolute best bet is indeed the LG-VX4500. Excellent speakerphone, ...

The V60S isn't bad, either. The speakerphone is loud as hell, it's sturdy and has a decent battery life. No color screen. No camera. External CID, though. The charging port is a constant source of irritation and has been ever since the V120 series, probably even before. I went from a T720 to a V60S and I'm thrilled. It holds RF signal better than the T720 did, and I can GET a signal in places I couldn't before.

I'm in B2B sales for Verizon, and we sell a ton of them. Very few come back for repair. Now, the V60c/i, that was another story. The software was crap & prone to lockups.

Dude there was a recall on the moto v60s series phone.

Direct and Indirect no longer have them cause of that recall. We had to send back ALL of our v60s to moto.

Umm that is absolutely not true. There was a recall on the V60P phones(push2talk) a long time ago on the antennas. Which were fixed with just a switch out of the antennas manually.

We still have V60Speaker phones and are selling them very regularly and customers aren't coming back with problems.

Thank you very much. There WAS a recall. A battery or firmware issue, as I remember. It's been tended to. The phones are back in B2B & the Indirect warehouse & have been for a couple of months now. They work fine.

I've tried most of them. For best call clarity and overall features, I like the Samsung A670. I tried to A650 first, but found the keypad a bit too small, and it seemed the sound quality not quite as good. I really didn't want the camera, but I got the A670 and am very happy with it. I have a nice digital camera, but don't carry it with me wherever I go like I do the cell phone. Every so often, this little not-great camera phone comes in handy. Could come in handy to document accidents and such, or strange or unusual events. It is kind of cool having photos of my dogs to view on my phone. The same would be true for a spouse, mistress, or other important person (or pet).

I agree with you GWFox on the LG-VX4500, I own one currently and love it! Great reception and landline-like voice quality (as stated by friend's/family). Great battery life, comfortable to hold and one of the most user-friendly menu's I've ever had on a phone. My roommate has the LG-3200...nice entry-level phone with color screen and a speakerphone, and again easy to use. Heard the LG-4600 is nice, as well as the Samsung A-650 (which looks pretty sharp in my opinion!) or A670. The LG-3200 and A650 do not have outer displays, which may not be an issue for you.

It's a moto PP..

Moto hasn't been good since the startac. The biggest issue is their charging slots. They always break first or wear down. It is a really piss poor design.

I recomend the lg 4500, audiovox 8600, lg 4600, lg 6000. Yes, the lg 6000 has a camera but it's such a solid phone--it's had an amazing production run and I haven't heard of one complaint.

If I can assume that you are in Minnesota - I would recommend the LG VX6000. It is a camera phone, but it has easily been one of the best reception phones available. Even though I have liked some Audiovox phones in the past - I would stay away from the 8600. Poor sound, and it has some problems in Minn. If you would rather go with a Samsung - look at either the a650 or the a670. The 650 is tri-mode if that is something you are looking for. The 670 is smaller, all digital, and has a camera. I have used one a little bit in Minn and so far so good. Pass along what parts of MN you would be using it in and I can possibly give more advice.

I live in the Twin Cities Metro Area. 90% of my use would be here. The rest would be in areas along I94 from Minneapolis out through central MN.

The VX6000 has been out awhile, now there's a VX7000. Should I be concerned that the VX6000 is almost 2 years old?

Actually the 6000 has only been out about a year...VZW just started with the whole picture messaging/camera phone thing as of late last summer

True, the 6000 has been out for quite awhile and probably will not be available by Christmas or sooner - but it has been such a strong performer that I would not be concerned. The 7000 is an OK phone, probably not as good reception as the 6000 - but still quite good. The main reason to get the 7000 would be for the video clips you can record and send from the phone. If you want to stick with something more current check out those Samsungs - both the a670 and a650.
