Verizon stinks for new phone selection!

I am a very loyal customer with Verizon Wireless. Have been with them for a number of years now. I am ready to upgrade my two year old v60i.
WHY DOES VERIZON STINK FOR THE CHIOCE OF PHONES!!!!! The v710 is way more than I need and Samsungs just does not cut it. Why is there a sudden slow down over the past year for cutting edge phone selection at Verizon? Have they become conservative with their phone selection. I see phones on other carriers which were just approved a few months ago! I am basically complaining because I would like more Motorola phones at a Verizon store. There is not much to choose from!
I want the v810 or v265, but Verizon probably will not carry either.

Anyone care to comment on thier methodology?

I guess the thing to realize is that Verizon has one of the toughest phone testing processes and a phone has to pass alot of tests to be put into the line up. That doesn't mean that every phone is perfect but the process is there. There are other pretty major companies with alot less phone selection as well. Also, if you don't like what they have, wait just a little while because there are a few more just around the corner like the Aud 9900 and the Mot 265 and the Kyocera Koi. You can see these on the phone section of this site. Patience is the key and wait for what works for you. Stay faithful!

I get really tired of repeating the "VZW has stringent testing standards for new phones, blah blah blah" mantra. I used to believe it, but I don't any more - reference the A310, the last of the Moto V120es, the early 8600, etc. I just sells what they gives me to sells.

Oh, and it's "disgruntled customer", not "disgruntal customer". I feel your pain, bro. I'd like to see a low-end Moto as well, it just seems like it will NEVER happen. I'd heard that there was a color-screen version of the V60S coming out - the V65 - but now I kind of doubt it. It's a shame, because large B2B accounts snapped them up like you wouldn't believe. That and the new Treo.

VZW needs to start making better phones. Most phones VZW makes are not very reliable, VZW should move their manufacturing wharehouse away from Mexico.

VZW does not manufacturer a single phone. We buy them off the same companies that every other carrier does.

Are you sure? VZW makes the phones not other manaufacturers, why are we having ALL the problems? It's so VZW fault for making and selling bad phones.

ok, you just aren't intelligent. the phone is on verizon's network, using cdma technology..... the phone itself has a brand name. like, if you drive a honda civic. it's a honda... not the title of the dealership where you bought it from. dumbass.

I eneded up with a Verizon phone that has such a soft ring to it that I can't hear it in even a slightly noisy setting. The irony is that the sales people know all about this problem.

Can I get it replaced- only at full price for a better phone.

For the most part Sprint offers better CDMA phones than Verizon does.

Amen. Sprint has Sanyo... and damn Sanyo operates so well on CDMA. Samsungs are pieces of **** on CDMA... but I will say that Verizon's LG quality seems superior to Sprint's. ???! 🙄

Oh, hell yes. Remember the LG 1010? That was a complete POS. The 5250 & 5350 weren't much better. The newer Samsungs seem to work OK on VZW. The A310 was a bad joke, but the a610/650/670 are all right.

My theory on this is not only does the testing process at VZW slow this down, but the fact that John Q. Public doesn't give a crap about what the phone can do other than make a call. Most of the phones I have seen lately on newly activated lines is on the Kyocera KX414. Sure it is a color phone and is Get It Now capable but it is still a plain-jane phone. Another big phone is the Motorola V60S which is again a plain-jane phone, but is a flip phone.

The old addage goes "If it is not broken, don't fix it." Till the major market share changes their opinion about how they use their phones(which has started happening, look at camera phones and sales of them) things will continue. Remember that VZW added just this quarter more new customers tha...

Here we go with the 'extensive testing' thing again.

Whoever buys into this crap need look no further than the new phones featured right here on phonescoop. They don't RELEASE as many CDMA phones, and most are not as advanced as GSM phones in the same price range.

ALL carriers test their phones extensively. I can assure you Cingular tests their phones just as hard. And we don't have NEARLY the repair/return rates you do.

One word - T720.

Now, what was that about return rates?!? 🙂

I don't care for the 'extensive testing' thing either - my employer takes WAY the hell too long to release phones.

Where did I say you didn't test your phones? We also have nearly twice the customers you do, AND put on three times as many per quarter. Now tell me comparing apples to oranges works how on phone repairs?

Not all those GSM phones are for US carriers either. Not all those phones are for Cingular either. Embellishing the truth again PP?

I was responding to the whole thread in general, dakz. My point was that there are more GSM phones produced, in more different styles, than there are CDMA phones. Look at Cingular's handset selection compared to VZW. Compare the number of phones, the feature sets, etc. There is a great deal more variety on GSM.

If you build phones for the wireless marketplace, and have the option to put the majority of your effort into one market or the other, do you put it into a market with 100 million users, or one with 1.1 billion? Where do you stand to have the best ROI?

Most vendors DO dabble in both, exception being Sony Ericsson, who has gone GSM only for the time being.

What makes the difference in a lot of phones is the customization carriers ask for. Of course, occasionally you get a phone that is complete crap no matter what, like the Moto T720. That one sucked no matter WHO sold it..lol

I must concur with phonepimp because it doesn't happen to often. I'm not a big fan of those motorola c332 343a dn those lil phones either. As a matter of fact, I don't think motorola phone products are good at all. Samsung and Sanyo all day.

Verizon is just behind the curve when it comes to adding new phones. They always have been and always will. I have seen phones added to carriers when the FCC just approved them a few months ago. It is a little bit ridiculous for a company to still be testing a phone that was approved last November(v810)! Then comment, well we know our customers want it, but don't know if we are really gonna give it to them. I bet the Moto v265 won't even be released by Verizon until next summer, if it does come out through Verizon. The thing that erks me is that Verizon is very smug with thier comments. Being vauge and no really committing to anything. Why don't they have a section on their site that list future phones and things of that nature? That would ...

Those phone manufacturers who normally make all these gsm phones are actually losing market share right now buddy. Wish I had the article still.
