I guys and this is aimed at Verizon employees. I just read a new emai from Verizon that with be signed on to "MY ACCOUNT" online I can get a new phone once per year at the promotional price by extending my agreement? I logged onto the site and it did not seem to mention much. Can anyone elaborate on this for me please. I will be at one year come april. I was just curious.
thanks.

In order to be eligible to upgrade every year you have to meet certain criteria: 1) Your account must be registered online, 2) You must sign a new one or two year contract on or after November 16, 2006, 3) You must be on a price plan of $49.99 or higher, and 4) There is a $20 early upgrade fee. If you're contract will hit the one year mark in April, you are not eligible for this program. The earliest anyone will be able to do this will be November 16 of next year. Hope this explains everything.

Yes, but the first eligibility to get the early upgrade won't happen until next year.

This confuses me ... Lets say I make 1 year in June, if I renew then it is already after November 16, 2006 so why wouldnt I be able to do it?

This went into effect on November 16. The new one or two year contract must go into effect on or after that date. You have to complete that contract before you can do the early upgrade. If your contract went into effect in June, then it was already in effect on the 16th. This new program doesn't apply to existing contracts, just contracts that take effect on or after the 16th. Make sense?

hasn't this always been the case? if you sign a new two year agreement after 1 year you can get the 2 year pricing on a phone? i don't ever remember being charged a $20 fee, but i just had to do it a few months ago to replace a broken one.

No. The policy before was you had to complete 22 months of the 2 year contract to be eligible for an upgrade. If you are a Merits customer you can get yearly upgrades. You can sometimes get an early upgrade through corporate, but only under certain circumstances. If you broke your phone, they may have given you a small discount on new equipment if you extended your contract, but it definitely wouldn't have been the usual discount given for upgrades.

It doesnt say on the website that you need to sign a new contract. It only says that for the prorated ETF. Where is it written that you must sign a new contract?

It may not be written on the website, I've never looked. I know that this is the case because I work for an indirect agent and therefore have gotten the lit on it. As of November 16 Verizon made some changes to their Worry Free Guarantee. They were: Free Backup Protection, Annual Upgrade, and Minute Check. Those 3 things are only available to customers who have their account registered online. They also did the changes to the ETF. But since all of this went into effect on November 16, it only effects customers who sign new 1 or 2 year contracts on or after that date. the Backup Protection and Minute Check are available to all My Account customers. Trust me, i know what I'm talking about. The only way you're going to find anything ab...

The Early Upgrade Policy has always been in effect for all customers w/ $49.99+ price plans prior to the Nov 16th, 2006 date, it's just that the system/website could not process early upgrades befor...
