Need help from VZW rep.

I see on the web site I have the option to upgrade my phone. I want the new Mv710 to replace my primary line phone. The problem I have is I'm only at about the halfway mark of my 2 year.

My current phone is on a deal that I guess they don't do anymore which is installments. In other words, when I got it, I just signed an installment agreement and they do something wierd like charge me $25 a month for the phone and then give a $12.50 credit because it was a $599 retail PDA phone but with my NE2 and extra loyal customer discount (I was friends with a store rep. at the time) it worked out to be $300 net cost for the phone.

When I go to the web site and select upgrade to the v710 it quotes a price of $419 with no rebate, etc. I understand that they charge full retail when you don't qualify for a promotion and are still under contract. My question is: what will happen with the charges for the old phone? Will they go back and make me pay full retail for that? Or will that just be continued to pay off over the remainder of the contract on the installment? I think I will do it if all I have to do is pay for the new 710 and nothing will change on my charges for the existing phone. I realize that I have to finish paying for that phone as well. I just don't want to get some crazy surprise bill that's all.

Also, the other alternative I was considering was just adding an additional line to my AC Family plan for the 710 but I don't see how to do that on the web. Is it possible to add a line on the web? Also, if I add the 710 as a new line, once I receive the phone can I have them flip the numbers around? Meaning take my original line 1 and put it on the 710 and take the new number and let that live on the old phone?

Thanks for your help.

Dial *611 from your handset and speak with customer service for your area. They are the people that can best answer your questions.

Uck. The textbook answer but not, I think, what he was getting at.

Dude, that's an interesting plan, and it's gotta be a legacy deal. I've been associated with VZW for a few years now & I've never heard of that.

Sounds almost like a leased equipment plan some carriers did for a while on old AMPS equipment. You didn't actually BUY the phone, just paid a lease payment. The way those worked was when you upgraded you returned the old equipment and made payments on the new one.

Not 100% sure this is what you have. They also offered equipment billing with some carriers, but usually those payments weren't for the length of the contract.
