Ok I have a new LG 8600 for a family member. Does it charge the phone through the USB port? Music essentials is installed and we also use Bitpim.

Yes and no. The USB cable that VZW provides with the Music Essentials kit has a place where you can plug your charger in and therefore yes.. but it cannot charge the 8600 expressly via the usb cable..
