I want to take the old Verizon phone I use, and put my phone number on a new phone I bought. Can this be done over the phone, or just in stores ?
...
I believe you can do that online, I think you have to register on Verizon's website. But I am not sure I don't work for them so a rep will have to tell you.
...
It can be done online, but you can also call in and do it. Just call from another phone, of course. 1-800-2-JOIN-IN.
...
They may charge you to do an ESN change.
...
and the ESN charge would be ??? $$$ ???
...
I already have the new phone, so I guess I can't go online and upgrade it. i don't see a link anywhere
...
Yes you can do it on-line even if you already bought the phone. No charge for ESN change on-line, $20 if you have CS do it. Register for "my account" and you'll have access to ESN change. Being registered in "My Account" also let's you get Backup Assistant for free.

or go to an indirect. We give personal service without nickle and diming you for it...
...
We've actually started charging in our store. We figure if everyone else is charging we need to get the money too. We only charge $10 however and don't usually charge our loyal customers. If someone off the street comes in they they pay the fee. We also charge $10 upgrade fee on share lines and non NE2 lines.

If an indirect would do this people would freak out. VZW themselves do and try to explain it away.
Don't worry. Just come to indirects. We don't nickle and dime people like the direct channel does...
...
We are an indirect. The largest indirect in our area started charging for this stuff. We were really getting used by people doing it for free. We don't charge as much as them so thats good for us. It's also something we can offer to our customers for free...
...
I know this is old and I'm sure you've changed your esn by now, but I just had to point out that it's a lie. Customer service does not charge you for an esn change. If you go into a direct store, they more than likely will just call customer service and have them change it.
...
I have done probably 3000 ESN changes for customers and I have never once charged them to do it. Also I dont know one other rep who does charge a fee to do an ESN change
...
free if I did that for you. I don't charge for ESN changes. Of course people still bash indirects even though we don't nickle and dime you...

EveryTime that I have tried to switch between phones over the verizon wesite it always gives me some sort of error. So I have to call every times and have them switch it, and they tell me that they will charge 30.00 to do it, but if you tell them that you tried it over the internet and it gave you an error they will do it for free should they every want to charge you. I guess I have been unlucky because everytime I call to switch a phone they always prompt with the 30.00 charge.
