Dual Mode CDMA / GSM phone made easy

Interesting article:[PCS Intel]

It’s prepping Samsung’s W531. It’s a CDMA phone with a GSM SIM slot, a dual-class badboy, like a half-mage/half-paladin. It’s not the first such phone from Sprint, indeed the A790, which also sports GSM compatibility, is being replaced by this brash upstart.

Besides harmony with the rest of the planet’s cell networks, the phone affords you Bluetooth, a 1.3-megapixel camera, dual displays, and a thin-is-in form factor. No release date yet, but it’s cleared the FCC, so it could drop any ol’ day now.

What’s intriguing is that this could be a trend among phone manufacturers. Indeed, if mass-market phones had access to both types of network, then making multiple versions of the same phone wouldn’t be neces...

Whats so special about this? Verizon already has three of these kind of phones A795, A840, and the I830 pda global phone.

yeah its not the first of its kind. Sprint and verizon both released, a samsung can't remember the number like 2 years ago!

I believe (could be wrong)they still offer the samsung one that sprint discontinued! It was a little bulky but have heard a very decent phone!

Looks like vzw-csr21 already answered the question. There are 2 world phones and 1 PDA. Only the PDA has Bluetooth, though, so the phones are not for hands-free states or countries yet.

Cingular has the 8525 that Quad band GSM, and WCDMA 850, 1900, and 2100, its a pretty cool looking phone, not going to lie, so I won't lie, its not my thing. Its going to be my early Christmas Present to myself.

The post was about CDMA/GSM and I hope you know, like you think you know everything, CDMA and WCDMA are two different things...

Thanks; was I right that the only Bluetooth model was a PDA? A world phone should be wireless hands-free.

BT would be nice and will be on future world phones im sure.

If you are an exec/sales/business man or woman who regularly goes over seas for business you probably can afford and make good use of the things the I830 offer. including bluetooth
