WA windstorm

gunny

Dec 18, 2006, 2:11 PM
We had a big windstorm that hit WA knocking out power to over 1 million customers. My neighbor with sprint ' no service' other neighbor with cingular ' no service' me and my waterproof bad boy full bars!

Say what you want but for me it only further cements what I already know- verizon is way more reliable then the next guy in my area

I will give verizon this. Were I am in havelock, NC they cut a fiber line here and sprint, alltel and cingular were down. Verizon was not. However due to sprint and verizons roaming agreement I was still making and receiving calls. But I don't know what they do but they do seem to always be up when others are not.

yeah it was kinda a lesson to some degree for me- the guy at the sprint store told me verizon will always be more reliable in situations like this because sprint doesn't have generators to backup their cell sites 😳 or not on all of them atleast...i was very surprised he told me this but there was noone in the store. He carried a blade on his hip but had a verizon phone in his pocket.

you of all people should know its based on were you live. Were I am verizon is horrible. You are constantly in extended network. And if I wanted alltel all the time I would go to the alltel store and get them! Each one has their strengths and weaknesses. ANd its all based on what you want and were you live!

its not a lesson that will make me switch carriers. It is something that could have easily been the other way around. It also amazes me how many people on this forum have sprint and verizon.

Not really, i used to have Sprint, but I know where the network is. Luckily i may have finally found a phone that I like as much as the network. EnV.

or 9/11 for that matter a snow storm with no large amounts of casualties wow no biggie but when thousands of lives are being lost and only one wireless network worked efficiently i dont think it was verizon or cingular or sprint for that matter it was the iden walkie talkie system of nextel yay go verizon really helps when it really counts haha

This is true with Katrine and the same with Hurricane Rita. All carriers were overloaded. When I evacuated Houston, I had to dial a number like 10 times before it would go through. My moms VZ phone was rendered useless, could not connect at all but the Nextel walkie talkies were the only thing working down here.

what flavor koolaid are you drinking jared? i am from new orleans and i can tell you from personal experience the reason voice networks had problems wasnt from the towers it was from LANDLINE problems. verizons network was the best network and most reliable there hands down. and i think that also proves why the majority of gov accounts are with them. data was mostly only available through who? not iden thank you. it was through verizon. almost all data either pics or text was xfered across verizon not iden. so if you want to say that nextel is more reliable in a situation like that do your research first.

Verizon Wireless gave free PrePay cell phones to Katrina victims preloaded with $1,000 of airtime immediately after Katrina. To my knowledge, no other cell provider did anything like this.
