For those of you who work in stores

How many times a week do you have freakin solicitors come in trying to sell stuff? I have them daily and they never seem to take NO for an answer.

I have tried being polite and all that does is make them think they have a shot at selling you their "whammo spot cleaner" or whatver it is their trying to pawn off on you. So I usually have to just tell them "I am trying to do business here, you need to leave" then they mutter some coice words under their breath and walk out.

So.... 2 questions.

1- How do YOU tell them no?

and

2- Whats the weirdest thing you have had somebody try to sell you?

I thought this might break up all the normal trolling post.

Well I have put trespassing notices on a few of those people. Just because its a store doesn't mean you can't stop someone from coming in. But it will depend on your company policies.

Well, I understand that people are out there just trying to earn a living, and I honestly like the fact that they are working and trying to earn money, its just when you tell them over and over and over that your not interested it starts to get to be a problem.

As far as the policies go, I own the stores so I can tell them whatever I want, I dont have a problem with them coming in its just when I say no and Im not interested I expect them to leave.

I would explain them that you don't have time to deal with people selling stuff when you are working to do the same. ANd if they don't then tell them it is private property since you own the stores and they will have to leave of be charged with trespassing!

I hear you about them trying to make a living but when it crosses a line.

Or ask them were they live so you can bother them at 1000pm to try and sell them a phone!

I did that to a telemarketer when I told them 4 times to stop calling wasn't interested. I asked for her number at home she said why do you need that. I said so I can show you what it feels like to have phone calls at all times of the day! She hung up on me!

You could always make them sign up a $99 2000 price plan in exchange for buying one (1) bottle of BAM!

I immediately tell them no 3 times in a row followed by "there's my three no's, now if you would like to buy something I will be glad to help. What can I help you find today?"

We are a RadioShack Dealer. It says RadioShack in big letters all over our building. When you come in the door there are three signs about RadioShack, you can't miss 'em.

We have a gang of kids going door to door, they come in, and immediately try to sell me stereos, hand held data organizers, and my favorite, Remote control toys! In the middle of Christmas season! You know, like the three you just tripped over to get to me! I need to buy more like I need another hole in the head!

They come in here several times a month sometimes, and usually are selling something we are advertising on the front door. It drives me crazy!

Don't get to many solicitors at my location now, but where I used to be it was terrible. It seemed like once or twice a week somebody different came in. I used to do like you said and try to be somewhat freindly or nice but you can only take it for so long. Finally I just started being rude and saying no not interested and if they ask again just ignore them. I also put up no soliciting signs on the door so if they won't take your no you can say look at my door no soliciting. Then you have every right to tell them off and to get out of your store.

I just point to the no soliciting sign on the door, read it to them (because clearly they can't do it on their own) and then ignore them. If they don't leave, I simply tell them that if they do not leave, I am going to pick their box of crap up off of my floor and throw it into the middle of the street.

The worst one ever was a perfume sales-guy that actually got past the front counter, and went to the business we share the building with and proceeded to spray various scents as he walked to the back shouting at people to buy his perfumes.

I've ran into that very situation. I simply tell them that we have a contract with a cleaning company which prohibits me from purchasing anything from them. If they insist on me buying it for personal use, I tell them I don't have any money, but I have a lot of debt I could give them in exchange.
