Is it just me or is there a little irony at play with Apple.

If you buy an iPhone you have to use Cingular(dumb move in my opinion) and you don't get 3G.

If you buy a Laptop from Apple, Verizon is the only carrier that has a 3G card that works (v640).

Why wouldn't they go with one carrier that can support both devices?????

Well, they were going to go GSM first because they want to sell the thing worldwide. Moto did the same thing with the RAZR, the CDMA version came later. We sometimes forget that even though CDMA is more popular in the US than GSM, overseas GSM is much more popular.

So they're going GSM first, and given that, if you're going the exclusive carrier route in the US that means you're partnering with either Cingular or T-Mobile... everyone else of note is CDMA in the US. So on size alone, who would you choose? It also helps that Cingular has some very slick marketing going these days, something Jobs is really into.

Still, its sad there was no simultaneous or near-simultaneous CDMA release... I'm certainly not going to go with an inferior car...
